QB’s Stanley and Carter Lead the Way in MEAC Weekly Football Honors

                       MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY FOOTBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 14, 2019 – Florida A&M quarterback Ryan Stanley and Norfolk State quarterback Juwan Carter have been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Offensive Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Marquis Hendrix is the Defensive Player of the Week and Florida A&M freshman Kamari Younghas been selected as Rookie of the Week. Earning Offensive Lineman of the Week honors is Norfolk State’s Justin Redd and picking up Specialist of the Week honors is Bethune-Cookman’s Jimmie Robinson.

Stanley (QB, 6-3, 210, r-Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) broke the school’s mark for career passing yards in the Rattlers’ 42-38 win over South Carolina State in the first quarter. He threw for a career-high 427 yards in that game, completing 30 of 49 passes with three touchdowns.

Carter (QB, 6-0, 175, Jr., Richmond, Va.) accounted for a career-high and MEAC season-high six touchdowns in Norfolk State’s 49-21 win over Howard. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 377 yards and four touchdowns and carried the ball eight times for 56 yards and two touchdowns for 433 yards of total offense – the most by a MEAC player this season.

Hendrix (LB, 6-1, 230, Sr., Ocala, Fla.) led the Wildcats in tackles with his second straight double-digit tackle game in a 27-13 win over North Carolina Central. He finished with 12 total tackles and two sacks for a loss of seven yards.

Young (TE, 6-3, 230, Fr., Tallahassee, Fla.) caught two passes in Saturday’s win over South Carolina State, including the 19-yard game-winning pass from Stanley with just over a minute remaining to snap the Rattlers’ 14-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.

Redd (OL, 6-5, 320, r-So., Hampton, Va.) graded out at 89 percent and spearheaded a Spartans offense that amassed 649 yards of total offense, including 377 passing yards and 272 yards rushing. He didn’t yield any sacks and recorded four pancake blocks with no penalties in the win over Howard.

Robinson (ATH, 5-8, 175, Sr., Palm Coast, Fla.) had two kickoff returns for 114 total yards, including a 79-yard return for a touchdown. He finished the game with 174 all-purpose yards, including 54 yards receiving and a touchdown in the win over North Carolina Central.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Akevious Williams (B-CU) completed seven of his 14 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball 14 times for 58 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a 3-yard touchdown pass.

Tarquie Akbar (FAMU) registered three pancake blocks and didn’t allow a sack as Florida A&M racked up 505 yards of total offense.

Markquesse Bell (FAMU) registered nine solo stops in the win over South Carolina State.

Josh Chase (MSU) finished the game against Delaware State with 19 carries for 116 yards.

Chris Myers (NSU) notched 1.5 of Norfolk State’s season-high five sacks and had a quarterback hurry against Howard.

Nicholas O’Shea (MSU) made field goals of 24 and 38 yards while also averaging 40.8 yards on six punts, including a 58-yarder against Delaware State.

Davius Richard (NCCU) completed 23 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 18 yards against Bethune-Cookman.

Darius Royster (NCCU) amassed 12 tackles, including 2.5 stops for a loss of 23 yards with 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries against Bethune-Cookman.
