Norfolk State Women’s Basketball Adds Standout Transfer Carmen Kweti

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State women’s basketball head coach Jermaine Woods announced the addition of transfer forward Carmen Kweti on Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot senior joins the Spartans from Virginia State, bringing a dominant presence on the boards and a proven defensive pedigree.

Kweti, a native of Frederick, Md., she received CIAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, as well as a spot on the All-CIAA Front Court team. Kweti appeared in 29 games for the Trojans last season, earning 23 starts, averaging 6.7 points and leading the CIAA with 11.8 rebounds per game, which ranked fourth nationally in NCAA Division II.

Kweti’s standout season included a 7-for-8 shooting performance for a season-high 18 points and 13 rebounds against the District of Columbia. She also posted two 20-plus rebound games, grabbing 20 against Livingstone and a career-high 23 boards against Lincoln (Pa.).

Before transferring to Virginia State, Kweti spent two seasons at Adelphi University. As a sophomore, she played in all 29 games, leading the team with 38 blocks and ranking in the top five of the NE10. She nearly posted a double-double against Bloomfield, finishing with nine points and 12 rebounds.

Kweti attended Urbana High School in earned Women’s Basketball Player of the Year honors for her team. She made the school’s honor roll all four years while helping lead her team to a Central Maryland Conference Championship.
