During the month of February, (Black History Month) members of the All-American team will be featured on the UrbanmediaToday.com website daily. Today we put the spot light on:

Jackson State’s Deonte  Hampton : (Linebacker)

#40  Sophomore
 6’2″  225lbs
West Point, Mississippi
(West Point  High School)

2019 First Team All -SWAC Conference Team
2019 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year

This   6’2″ 225 pound Red-Shirt Sophomore  was a major problem for all Tigers opponents racking up 106 tackles, 13 tackles for loss (Including 4.5 sacks )and he forced a fumble. Deonte Hampton also registered a pass breakup this season not to mention 69 of his tackles  were solo tackles.

Hampton excelled on the gridiron  with double digit tackles in 5 games. What is truly amazing is that the sophomore gobbled up 15 tackles in the game against South Alabama and two weeks later he gobbled up 13 tackles against Grambling State. Not to mention 10  of those tackles in the GSU game were solo tackles. Speaking of tackles all by his lonesome; there were two games in which Hampton executed double digit tackles one was Grambling and the other was in the game against Mississippi Valley State.

During one stretch during this past season Keonte registered a sack in 3 straight games (Mississippi Valley State,Prairie View A&M  and UAPB); as a matter of fact in those three games he average 9 tackles per outing. In the MVSU game  in addition to his 14 tackles (10 solo) the young tiger executed a sack and forced a fumble. So it is very clear that the 2019 SWAC Defensive player of the Year has put all Tiger Opponents on alert that when he roars it is time to pay attention.
