WASHINGTON  – BOXTOROW uncovered its 2023 HBCU College Football Preseason All-America honors where Howard University senior defensive back Kenny Gallop, Jr. (Portsmouth, Va.) earned First Team recognition. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.

The Virginia native garners his second preseason award after being named to the 2023 Bluebloods Preseason All-American Team mid-June.

Last season, Gallop topped the conference with 58 solo tackles (89 total) while earning multiple postseason honors, including All-MEAC First Team, Eastern College Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team and BOXTOROW HBCU All-American honors.

On Oct. 17, 2022, he won Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week after racking up a season-best 16 total tackles (11 solos) against Harvard in the annual Truth & Service Classic (Oct. 15, 2022).

In total, 18 programs were represented among the 29 selected student-athletes, led by HBCU National Champion North Carolina Central with five Eagles.

BOXTOROW has named All-America teams since 2007, based on voting by national media who cover HBCU Football.

Coming off a share of the 2022 MEAC Championship, Howard will begin its season with a road game at Eastern Michigan (Sept. 1). Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
