PHILADELPHIA (December 30, 2023) – Junior guard Marcus Dockery (Washington) scored a game-high 21 points and fellow classmate guard Bryce Harris (Brentwood, N.Y.) and graduate forward Seth Towns (Columbus, Ohio) each registered double-doubles to help the Howard University men’s basketball team defeat LaSalle University, 71-66, in a nonconference game at the Tom Gola Arena.

The trio combined for 20-of-39 shooting from the field and 9-of-16 from three among them.

Dockery connected on 7-of-11 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. Harris tallied 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, while leading the team in rebounds (13).

Towns, the team-leading scorer, coming into the game also finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Bison outrebounded the hosts, 42-32.

Their contributions were especially important as injury-riddled Howard played without the services of sophomore center Dom Campbell (Scarborough, Maine), graduate guards Isiah Warfield (Monaca, Pa.) and Jelani Williams (Washington) and sophomore forward Shy Odom (Roxbury, Mass.), who all sat out with injuries.

A key to the victory was the defense where the Bison limited the Explorers to 36-percent shooting from the floor after halftime, forcing them to miss 10-of-13 shots taken from three. The score was tied at 36 in intermission.

Another key factor in the win, that snapped a three-game losing skid, was at the free throw line where Howard converted on 84-percent.

Graduate guard Joshua Strong (Brooklyn Park, Minn) added nine points as the starters scored all but one point of the Bison’s totals.

LaSalle was led by Khailil Brantley (17), Anwar Gill (15), Jhamir Brickus (14 points) and Daeshon Shepherd (12 points, 13 rebounds).

NEXT UP: Howard hosts Yale Wednesday (Jan. 3) at 4 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
