VSU Shows Fight but Comes Up Short in Challenging Loss

Ettrick, VA- The Women’s Tennis team had a match-up against the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive on March 25, 2025, at 2 pm.
Doubles

  • #1 Doubles: Damita Bollers and Ashleigh Charles triumphed over Sandra Riecken and Alina Esser with a close 7-5 victory. Their resilience and teamwork were key to securing the win.
  • #2 Doubles: Julie Jagiella and Claudia Cerdan dominated  Ginger Johnson and Alexcie Burrows, with a 6-0 win. Their coordination and strategic play left their opponents with no chance to recover.
  • #3 Doubles: Nina Bernier and Courtney Howell secured a 6-1 victory against Geena Williams and Makensie Pago. Their aggressive play and strong serves made the difference.

 

Singles 

  • #1 Singles: Ginger Johnson overcame Claudia Cerdan in a tough match, winning 6-7, 6-2, 7-3. Johnson’s endurance and tactical adjustments were crucial in turning the match around.
  • #2 Singles: Nina Bernier defeated Makensie Pago 6-2, 6-2. Bernier’s consistent baseline play and powerful shots secured her the win.
  • #3 Singles: Julie Jagiella triumphed over Ashleigh Charles 6-3, 6-1. Jagiella’s precision and speed on the court were evident throughout the match.
  • #4 Singles: Alina Esser won against Damita Bollers 6-1, 6-0. Esser’s dominant performance left little room for her opponent to compete.
  • #5 Singles: Alexcie Burrows defeated Sandra Riecken 6-4, 6-0. Burrows’ aggressive play and strong serves were key to her victory.
  • #6 Singles: Courtney Howell secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Geena Williams. Howell’s flawless play and strategic shot placement ensured a decisive win.

Women’s tennis will return to play against the Panthers of Virginia Union on March 29, 2025, at 1 pm.
