UMT’s Ray Porter Jr. Honored Among 2023 Men of Excellence by the New Pittsburgh Courier

Urban Media Today proudly announces Rev. Raymond Porter, Jr.’s selection as a 2023 New Pittsburgh Courier Man of Excellence.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh Pa, (Wilkinsburg), Ray has been part of Urban Media Today since 2010, serving as Senior Staff Sportswriter. Fans of UMT will recognize Ray as our consummate sports journalist, deftly covering the Pittsburgh Steelers, University of Pittsburgh Football and Basketball, including games, practices, news conferences, locker room interviews, as well as local/national sports news articles.

He also is part of the Urban Media Today Talks Sports Podcast (Part of Urban Media Today Radio), hosted by Trevin A Jones. Ray has covered the First and Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, was part of the Selection Committee of the Black College World Series, covered the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremonies, and has covered basketball games at Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, and is a member of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation. He has also mentored and assisted future media persons in getting credentialed for covering games.

Ray is an Executive Pastor at Potter’s House Ministries (The Late Bishop Otis L. Carswell, Senior Pastor, Apostle Annette Carswell, Overseer) and Senior Grievance and Appeals Coordinator at Aetna, a CVS Company.

Ray has been happily married for 16 years to Nicol (Nikki) Porter, a 2022 New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence Honoree, and they are the proud parents of 15-year-old Raymond Porter III.

Ray is among esteemed companies, including the University of Pittsburgh Men’s Head Basketball Coach Jeff Capel, and Western Pennsylvania sports legend Sam Clancy, Sr. A ceremony will celebrate honorees on August 10th at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square.
