The National Football League had their 2025 Schedule Release on Wednesday, and after looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers schedule, I could only draw one obvious conclusion: The NFL loves drama.

Why? You know why: Because the schedule makers know what they’re doing with some of these matchups. Characteristics of boxing promoters, they ensure that each team will have some of the most intriguing matchups-especially when it’s a player facing his former team.

For example: Week 1, the Steelers will travel to MetLife Stadium to face the NY Jets. Who’s their QB? Former Steeler Justin Fields, who will face his former team. And if the Steelers finally agree to a contract with future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers, he will start the season facing his former team.

Then there’s Week 2: The Steelers will welcome the Seattle Seahawks to Acrisure Stadium for their Home Opener-which means Steelers WR DK Metcalf will face his former team for the first time since getting acquired by the Steelers in March.

And then…the Big One: Week 8 vs. the Green Bay Packers (Acrisure Stadium) which would be HUGE if Rodgers is on the team. He would face the Packers for the first time since he left them after the 2022 season. This game is also on Sunday Night (NBC) Trust, everyone will be waiting all day for this one.

Of course, the headline game of the Steelers schedule will be Week 4 as they will travel to Dublin, Ireland to host (as the home team) the Minnesota Vikings as part of the NFL’s International Series. It will be the first time the Steelers will play overseas since 2013 when they also faced the Vikings in London, England. They also played in Dublin in a 1997 Exhibition Game vs. the Chicago Bears.

Following the Dublin game, the Steelers will have a Week 5 Bye, then they play their first 2 AFC North games Week 6 at home vs. the Cleveland Browns and Week 7 at Cincinnati Vs. the Bengals.

And then for then 2nd straight season, the Steelers will have a tough finish to the season as 3 of their final 6 games will be against 2024 playoff teams: At home vs, Buffalo (Week 13), at Baltimore (Week 14), at Detroit (Week 16), and will finish the regular season at home vs. Baltimore.

The Steelers have 4 Primetime games in 2025: Week 7 at Cincinnati (Thursday Night 8:15pm on Prime Video), Week 8 Sunday Night Game vs. the Packers (NBC at 8:20), Week 10 Sunday Night at the LA Chargers (NBC at 8:20pm), and Week 15 Vs. Miami on Monday Night Football at 8:30pm. Please note: The Steelers will not have any games on Thanksgiving or Christmas in 2025.

In conclusion, the Steelers schedule may not be as tough as it was in 2024, but it’s certainly tough enough. Why? Because the NFL loves drama.

Notes: In an interview about the 2025 schedule, Steelers Team President Art Rooney II discussed their Throwback Uniform plans: “We are going to have a new throwback uniform this year, and with a new helmet to go with it,” said Rooney. “We’re planning to wear our new throwbacks for the Packers game on Sunday night, Oct. 26. It’ll be fun to wear our throwbacks against one of the older franchises in the league, that just seems to be appropriate. We’ll be doing our color rush uniforms late in the year. I think we’re going to do it for the Monday night game on Dec. 15 against the Miami Dolphins.”
