STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Norfolk State men’s basketball team closed out a six-game road stretch with a victory on Sunday afternoon, defeating Stony Brook 77-66 on the Seawolves’ home floor.

Brian Moore Jr. scored all of his 18 points in the second half to pace the Spartans, shooting 6-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Christian Ings added 11 points and five assists, as Norfolk State earned its first win over Stony Brook since the 2017-18 season.

Jalen Myers set the tone immediately, scoring on the Spartans’ first possession with a foul for a three-point play. Myers finished at the rim off a pass from Ings a few minutes later to push NSU ahead 5-2.

Stony Brook began to heat up from behind the arc, knocking down multiple 3-pointers to briefly grasp a four-point advantage. Dramane Camara responded with a triple of his own, though, before Terrance Jones drove to the basket to give Norfolk State a 12-11 advantage.

As the Spartans continued to dominate inside the paint, Stony Brook continued to hit key shots from behind the arc to keep the score tight. Tyrel Bladen gave the Spartans an energy boost on a two-handed dunk, before Ings found Darden for a nothing-but-net 3-pointer to surge NSU ahead 30-22.

Ings made another layup before the end of the first half, giving Norfolk State a 34-27 lead at the break.

The Spartans didn’t slow down from there, scoring the first six points of the second period. Ings shot to the rim for a quick score, before Darden forced a timeout from the home team with a turnaround jumper in the paint.

After going scoreless in the first half, Brian Moore Jr. made up for lost time in the second. The graduate guard scored seven consecutive points for the Spartans, as the visiting team’s lead reached 17 points.

Sin’Cere McMahon drained a jump shot from behind the arc, keeping Norfolk State in control. Norfolk State shot 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from behind the arc, knocking down the triples in the second half.

Moore kept his red-hot stretch going in the closing minutes, scoring Norfolk State’s final nine points of the afternoon. The Seawolves never pulled within single digits again as the Spartans coasted to a second straight victory.
