PITTSBURGH—Pitt junior running back Desmond Reid has been named to the 2024 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Team, presented in partnership with the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, it was announced today.
Reid was a second-team selection as an all-purpose back.
The FWAA is the fourth organization to honor Reid as an All-American. He was previously recognized by Associated Press, The Athletic and CBS Sports.
Reid additionally was named first team All-ACC at two different positions (all-purpose back and return specialist) by the league’s coaches and media earlier this month.
The 5-foot-8, 175-pounder played much bigger than his size and was truly a do-it-all threat with the ball in his hands. Reid averaged 150.90 all-purpose yards per game to rank sixth nationally. He averaged an ACC-best 12.3 yards per punt return, which ranked ninth in the country.
Despite missing two full games (Youngstown State and Boston College) due to injury, Reid netted a team-high 797 rushing yards and scored four touchdowns on 151 carries (5.3 avg.). He was also Pitt’s second-leading receiver with 47 catches for 564 yards (12.0 avg.) and four scores.
Reid leads the Panthers with nine total touchdowns: four rushing, four receiving and one via a 78-yard punt return.
Entering the bowl season, Reid is the only player in the nation to compile three games with at least 100 receiving yards and 50 rushing yards in 2024. That feat was last accomplished by Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey in 2015.
Reid and the Panthers will close out the 2024 season at the GameAbove Sports Bowl against Toledo on December 26. The game, held in Detroit’s Ford Field, will be nationally televised by ESPN and kick off at 2 p.m.
