Simson’s family “announced on Simpson’s official X account — formerly Twitter — that Simpson died Wednesday after battling cancer. Simpson’s attorney confirmed to TMZ he died in Las Vegas.”

According to TMZ, “O.J. had reportedly been battling prostate cancer in recent years, and his health took a turn for the worse of late — with him landing in hospice care within the past few months.”

Before his name became synonymous with “The Trial of the Century,” OJ was a perennial sports hero, broadcaster, advertising pitchman, and actor.

In June 1994, “his legacy was forever changed by the knife slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman in Los Angeles. Simpson was found not guilty of murder in his criminal trial but judged to be liable in civil court in 1997. He was ordered to pay the Brown and Goldman families $33 million.

In 2007, Simpson was charged and convicted on two felony counts of kidnapping and armed robbery for an assault on a memorabilia collector in Las Vegas. He served 10 years and was released in late 2017.
