The Alan and Mary Jo Lincoln Scholarship program, presented by Riverside Sales Group, awarded its 2021 scholarship to Mr. Mitchell Howard. Mr. Howard graduated in June 2021 with a 3.9 GPA from South Fayette High School and recently began his freshman year at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Mr. Howard received an award of $1000 to support his studies.

Applicants for the scholarship are graduating African American high school seniors who plan to attend college or trade school full time. Applicants must have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA and have participated in school and community activities. Mr. Howard’s commitment to his school community is quite impressive. His roles included: Class President, Executive Board Member of Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils, founding member and Captain of the Boy’s Volleyball Team, Teen Institute Mentor, Link Crew Commissioner, National Association of Secondary School Principals Student Leadership Advisory Committee, and SHOUT (Social Handprints Overcoming Unjust Treatment) Public Relations Director. His work with SHOUT gained attention and commendation from US Sen. Bob Casey’s office, PA Gov. Tom Wolf, PA State Sen. Lindsay Williams, and PA US Sen. Pat Toomey.

Mr. Howard has not slowed down since his arrival as a freshman at Ohio State. He is already active in the Undergraduate Student Government Justice and Equity Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement and Black Caucus. As for his future, Mr. Howard wants to extend his commitment to serving in the role of a US Senator. We at Urban Media Today do not doubt that he will make that dream a reality!
