TSU Volleyball Drops Road Match to Middle Tennessee

he Tennessee State volleyball team battled throughout but could not overcome a balanced Middle Tennessee attack, falling in straight sets (17-25, 17-25, 17-25) on Tuesday evening inside the Murphy Center.

The non-conference matchup moved TSU to 1-17 on the season as the Tigers continue to show growth heading into their return to Ohio Valley Conference play.

Freshman Aliyah Harris paced the Big Blue offense with 10 kills and a .292 hitting percentage, while freshman Eirini Bitsaktsi anchored the defense with 10 digs. Senior setter Sagaia Reilly tallied 22 assists and added a pair of kills, while freshman Carsyn Stansberry led the serving game with two aces.

Alabama A&M Bulldogs Outlast Rattlers in Five-Set Affair

Fresh off a five-set victory on Friday night over Bethune-Cookman, the Alabama A&M University volleyball was put to the test again on Sunday, holding off Florida A&M, 3-2, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) match at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 in five-set matches this season and now are off to their best start in conference play since 2018 when AAMU opened SWAC play 16-0.

Alabama A&M (13-3 overall, 4-0 SWAC) finished with 60 kills, 63 digs, 60 assists, nine service aces and 8.0 total team blocks.

Hampton Volleyball drops match one with Hofstra

The Hampton University volleyball team dropped a conference match with Hofstra Thursday evening.

In the first set the Pride jumped out to an early 9-3 lead, but it was the Pirates battling back. Racquel Frazier buried home two kills, and two Hofstra miscues led to Hampton bringing the set within four at 10-6. Hofstra then ripped off a 5-0 run, and used that momentum to take set one from the Pirates.

The Pirates were led by Frazier and Rimm’s five kills. Ida Wiszomirska led Hampton in assists with eight, while Maria Clara Andrade recorded a team high six digs. Prather added two blocks on the night, a career best.

Bowie State Bulldogs Drop Hard-Fought Match to Virginia Union, 3-2

The Bowie State women’s volleyball team (6-12, 3-3 CIAA) came up just short in a five-set battle against Virginia Union (8-8, 3-3 CIAA) Thursday night inside Barco-Stevens Hall.

Bowie State opened the match strong, taking the first set 25-19 behind efficient hitting and strong defensive play. Lyric Snowden and Nicole Taylor led the charge at the net, while Mekenna Scott set the tone with crisp passing as the Bulldogs grabbed early momentum.

Virginia Union answered in the fourth set, pulling away late to earn a 25-20 victory that forced a decisive fifth frame. The final set remained close early, but the Panthers finished on a 6-2 run to close out the match, 15-11.

Alcorn Outlasts UAPB in Five-Set Thriller

The Alcorn State volleyball team battled through five competitive sets to earn a 3–2 victory over Arkansas–Pine Bluff on Monday night inside H.O. Clemmons Arena. The win marked the Lady Braves’ second victory of the season and their first on the road in SWAC play.

After dropping the opening set 22–25, Alcorn found its rhythm and responded with back-to-back wins in sets two and three (25–18, 25–19). UAPB forced a deciding fifth set after taking the fourth frame 25–22, but the Lady Braves held firm down the stretch, closing out the match with a dominant 15–10 finish.

With the win, the Lady Braves improved to 2–16 overall and 1–4 in SWAC play, while the Golden Lions fell to 0–18 and 0–5 in conference.
