Tigers roll in conference opener against Southern
Jackson State went over the 500-yard mark of total offense in its Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener, a 38-13 victory over Southern at A.W. Mumford Stadium on Saturday night.
Jackson State (3-1, 1-0 SWAC), winners of its last 11 games against conference competition dating back to last season, piled up 538 total yards of offense with 197 yards rushing and 337 yards passing in the win. JaCobian Morgan led Jackson State offensively with 337 yards on 21-of-32 passing with two touchdowns, hitting three receivers for 90-plus yards including Nate Rembert for 102 yards on five receptions with one touchdown – an 82-yard fourth quarter touchdown.

Panthers rush for 224 yards in 28-13 win against Grambling in 100th State Fair Classic
Prairie View A&M used an explosive 224-yard performance on the ground and four rushing touchdowns to pick up a 28-13 win against Grambling Saturday night in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers fell to 3-2 and 0-1.
Lamagea McDowell paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 98 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 9.8 yards per carry. Tevin Carter also added 36 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 4 yards per carry.

Tigers Take Explosive 59-24 Victory Over Clark Atlanta
The Benedict College Tigers remained undefeated with an explosive 59-24 victory over Clark Atlanta University on Saturday afternoon.
Benedict scored three offensive touchdowns of more than 40 yards, three defensive touchdowns, and one touchdown on special teams to move to 4-0 on the season, and 3-0 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the SIAC.

Norfolk State Forces Four Turnovers in Narrow Road Loss
The Norfolk State football team (1-4) showed resilience on the road Saturday afternoon, building an early two-touchdown lead before ultimately falling 18-13 to Wagner (1-4) at Hameline Field.
The Spartan defense put together an aggressive performance, forcing four turnovers with interceptions from Corey Chapman and Kaleb Broadbent alongside two fumble recoveries. Chapman and Major Dillard each finished with nine tackles, while Terique Miles led all defenders with 10 stops.

Eagles Survive Late Comeback Attempt, Defeat East Texas A&M
The North Carolina Central University football program survived a late comeback attempt Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium, holding on to defeat East Texas A&M 50-42.
[RB Arthur] Rodgers picked up his second rushing touchdown of the game, a 2-yard run with 2:59 left in the [4th] quarter to make it a 26-point lead at 47-21.
The Eagles are heading into their first bye week; they will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, when they head to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on former MEAC rival Florida A&M.

Football Comes Up Short in a 35-8 Loss to #11 Tennessee Tech
The Tennessee State football team fell 35-8 to #11 Tennessee Tech in the OVC-Big South opener at Nissan Stadium on Saturday.
TSU falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Kendric Rhymes paced the Tigers rushing attack by accumulating 31 yards over the course of the game. Rhymes also tacked on 53 receiving yards. Zack Simmons-Brown also added 19 yards on the ground.
