West Virginia State’s 17-0 Start Fades in 24–20 Home Loss
INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State’s home dominance came to an end Saturday as the Yellow Jackets fell 24–20 to Wheeling at Lakin-Ray Field at Dickerson Stadium. It marked WVSU’s first home loss since last year’s setback against Carson-Newman, snapping a six-game home win streak.
The Jackets (4–3, 3–2 MEC) surged to a 17–0 lead midway through the second quarter behind a two-yard touchdown run from Nasean Hill, a 67-yard scoring strike from Kaleb Jackson to Devin Cox, and a 21-yard field goal from Tony Hornbuckle. Wheeling (4–3, 3–1 MEC) trimmed the deficit with a touchdown just before halftime, then tied the game at 17 late in the third quarter on Landon Lutz’s 13-yard keeper and a 22-yard field goal by Connor Fitzpatrick. Hornbuckle’s second 21-yard kick briefly restored WVSU’s lead early in the fourth, but Lutz connected with Sajari Love for a 37-yard touchdown with 2:48 remaining to hand the Cardinals the win.

Central State Marauders Fall Short After Slow Start
Central State Marauders football put together one of its most productive offensive performances of the season on Saturday afternoon but ultimately came up short in a hard-fought matchup against Kentucky Christian Knights football. The game featured explosive plays on both sides of the ball, with the Knights pulling away late behind a high-powered passing attack. The Marauders battled back after falling behind 28-0 but eventually fell short.
Senior quarterback Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell led the Marauder offense with precision and poise, throwing for 304 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-27 passing. His biggest strike came midway through the first half — a 75-yard touchdown connection with Dai’Vontay Young that electrified the home crowd.

Howard Drops Road Contest at Tennessee State
On a day when the Howard University defense played another outstanding game, the offense was unable to complement it as the football team fell, 24-7, at Tennessee State University (TSU) in a nonconference game at Nissan Field.
Both teams came into the game trying to avoid a losing streak: the Bison had dropped two in a row and the Tigers five. TSU (2-5) did not look like a team that came into the game on a skid.
Despite its woes on offense, TSU capitalized on Howard mistakes with three scores following Howard turnovers or mistakes.
