Delaware State Hornets Have Trio of 100-yard rushers in 70-23 win against Southern Connecticut State
Three rushers went over 100 yards Saturday afternoon, led by James Jones‘ 158 yards, and Delaware State cruised to a 70-23 win at home over Southern Connecticut State.
The victory improved Delaware State’s record to 4-3 on the season while the Fighting Owls fell to 1-4.
Individually, Jones led the way for the three rushers who crossed the century mark, racking up 158 yards and two touchdowns. Marquis Gillis followed with 130 yards and one touchdown and added yards. Nathan Stewart reeled in four catches for 70 yards. Amir Anderson showed out for the Delaware State defense, totaling one interception. Leshawn Stuckey added three tackles and one recovered fumble and Jaydon Mifflin had four tackles, 1.5 TFL, and one sack in the win.

Elizabeth City State Vikings Fall to No. 17 Virginia Union, 37–18
Despite a competitive first half and another strong outing from quarterback Christopher Perkins, the Elizabeth City State University football team dropped a 37–18 decision to nationally ranked No. 17 Virginia Union on Saturday afternoon at Roebuck Stadium.
Defensively, the Vikings made momentum-shifting plays in the third quarter. D’Andre Tolson provided the highlight of the day with a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown, pulling ECSU within 21–18 midway through the third. However, Virginia Union’s rushing attack proved too strong down the stretch.
The Vikings will look to bounce back next weekend when they travel to Virginia State for a CIAA matchup on Saturday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Petersburg, Va.

Clark Atlanta Panthers Drop Road Contest to Albany State
The Panthers struggled offensively on the road, ultimately falling to Albany State, 32-7, on Saturday afternoon inside ASU Coliseum.
- The Golden Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter behind a 33-yard field goal at the 11:58 mark.
- Albany State added on 10 more points in the second quarter to mount a 13-0 lead with 5:34 left to play in the first half.
- Clark Atlanta got on the board following a one-yard rush from Donte McCall to cut the margin to 13-7 with just over a minute to play in the first half.
- ASU went on to score 19 unanswered points throughout the remainder of the contest to secure a 32-7 win on their home field.

Bowie State Bulldogs Come Up Short in 28-21 Battle Against Virginia State
The Bowie State football team dropped a hard-fought 28-21 decision to Virginia State on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium. With the loss, BSU dips to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) while VSU improves to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The Bulldogs opened the game with solid field position after a 33-yard kickoff return from Ty Lyles, but the offense was unable to capitalize on the opening drive. Virginia State struck first with a 14-play, 70-yard drive capped by a six-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Rahsaan Matthews Jr. to take a 7-0 lead.
Bowie State hits the road for the first time in nearly a month, traveling to West Virginia to face Bluefield State on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Mitchell Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.

Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Stop Southern (La.), 45-14
Cam’Ron Ransom passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for one score as Bethune-Cookman defeated Southern University 45-14 at Daytona Stadium in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) football game in Daytona Beach, Florida.
It took the Cats just three plays into the second quarter to go ahead for good in the game as running back Rashon Brown, playing in his first collegiate game, scampered around the left side for 12 yards and the score to put the Cats up 14-7.
Bethune-Cookman next takes on Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a B-CU Homecoming 2K25 on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m.
