Pittsburgh, Pa , Monday night across the northern boarder the Golden State Warriors fought for survival  beating the Toronto Raptors 106-105  in game five of the NBA Finals. The “Splash Brothers”  Steph Curry and Klay Thompson led the Warriors attack dropping in 31 and 26 points respectively. The Duo of Curry and Thompson looked like gunslingers from the wild west as they knocked down a total of 12 shots from beyond the arc.

Curry and Thomspon were only part of the story for the team from the west coast. The other part of the Golden State story was the return of all-star forward Kevin Durant. K.D. missed a month of basketball and made his appearance on  the court  count dropping  in 11 points in only 11 minutes of playing time before suffering what many speculate to be a tear to his achilles tendon early in the second quarter.

Golden State went into the locker with a 62-56 lead despite losing K.D. and actually held onto the lead through out the second half until late in the fourth quarter. That is when Torontos’ Kwahi Leonard caught fire dropping in 10 straight points in a short span of time to give the host Raptors the lead with only 3 and a half minutes left in the contest. Leonard who lead the Raptors with 26 points looked like he was going bring the NBA crown to the north , but the “Spash Brothers” were not finished.

Thompson knocked down a 3 pointer and  Curry dropped in another from beyond the arc to tie the game at 103. Thompson then sank the tie breaking Trey  with just under a minute left in the game. Toronto guard Kyle Lowry  who finished with  18 points knocked down a shot to cut the lead to one. Lowry then  got another look and a chance to win the game for the Raptors in the waning seconds but his shot fell short and the victory went to the defending champs.

The Warriors win cuts their deficit in the best of seven series to 1 game. The Raptors are up 3 games to 2 and hold home court advantage. Game six will be Thursday night in Oakland and  the energy in the Oracle will be palpable. This will be the last game in the oldest arena in the NBA; The Oracle opened in 1966. Next season the Warriors  will make San Francisco their home. If the reigning champs can win on Thursday nigtht ,NBA Fans will be in for a treat as the seventh and decidign game will be played in Toronto. That being said , if the crowds energy up north is anything like it was for game five a game seven will be an exciting event to witness!
