The wait is finally over. Three months after initial talks took place, 4-time NFL MVP QB Aaron Rodgers is coming to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He told the team that he plans to sign a 1-year contract on Friday in time for Mandatory Minicamp. It will be Rodgers 21st season.

Rodgers, 41, is a future Hall of Famer with a decorated career passing for 62,952 passing yards, 503 TDs. He’s been to 10 Pro Bowls and is a 4-time All-Pro. He is also a Super Bowl MVP after beating the Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl 45 during the 2010 Season. In addition to playing with the Packers (2025-2022), Rodgers played the last two seasons with the NY Jets. He finished the 2024 season passing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

He joins a Steelers team that had been desperate for a veteran QB after playing the 2024 season with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. While both QBs played moderately well with the Steelers, the team struggled down the stretch with an 0-5 record and a playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens and although there were reports that they were interested in re-signing either Wilson or Fields, the Steelers knew they couldn’t pass up the opportunity of getting a proven veteran like Rodgers.

While the Steelers waited on Rodgers, they signed veteran QB Mason Rudolph (who played with the Steelers from 2018-2023) and drafted Ohio State National Championship QB Will Howard in the 6th round of this year’s NFL Draft.

Rodgers comes to a Steelers team that has proven that they are ‘all-in’ with not only winning their 1st playoff game since the 2016 season, but to also cement themselves as a legitimate contender.

In the offseason, the Steelers traded for WR DK Metcalf (and signed him to a multi-year deal), they signed 2 players from Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia: CB Darius Slay and RB Kenneth Gainwell among others and many think that adding Rodgers will be the ‘icing’ on the cake for the Steelers in 2025.

Time will tell.

Notes: With Rodgers officially joining the Steelers, it will make for several ‘Revenge’ matchups on the NFL Schedule: Week 1: Steelers at Jets, Week 2: Seahawks at Steelers,(Home Opener)  Week 4: Vikings at Steelers (In Dublin, Ireland), Week 8: Packers at Steelers (Sunday Night Football), Week 12: Steelers at Bears, Week 16: Steelers at Lions.
