Dickerson Announces Assistant Coaching Staff

COLUMBIA, S.C. – New Benedict College head football coach Ron Dickerson Jr. has announced his coaching staff.

Marcus Spearman joins the staff as associate head coach and defensive line coach. Spearman comes to Benedict from West Virginia Wesleyan, where he served as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. the Defensive Line Coach. Prior to West Virginia Wesleyan He also saw time at Morgan State University, and SUNY Maritime College.

Joining the staff of the Tigers is Shea Campbell as defensive coordinator and linebacker coach. Campbell comes to Benedict after spending the last two seasons at West Florida, where he worked with the defensive line in 2023 and tight ends in 2022.

Stan Clayton joins as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Clayton comes to Benedict from Morehouse, where he served as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach last season. He was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Morgan State in 2022 and spent three seasons as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Stetson. He has also been an offensive line coach at Morgan State, Lafayette, Toledo, Princeton, Alabama State and Massachusetts.

Mike Beaudry joins the staff as quarterbacks coach. He comes to Benedict from West Florida, where he spent last season as an offensive assistant. Beaudry helped the Argos rank seventh in Division II in passing offense and third in the nation in passing yards per completion. Beaudry started his collegiate career at West Florida, and led the Argos to the 2017 Division II national championship, passing for 3,215 yards and 29 touchdowns as a freshman. He transferred to UConn and played in five games in 2019 before suffering an injury. He transferred to Idaho as a graduate transfer, and in 11 games across a shortened spring 2021 campaign and 2021 regular season, he completed 188-of-301 passes for 2,093 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions, while rushing for 165 more and a TD on the ground.

Paul Holmes joins the Tigers as wide receiver coach. He spent last season as the wide receivers coach at South Carolina State under legendary coach Buddy Pough. He previously served as quarterbacks coach and defensive backs coach at Mississippi Valley State. He also previously served as a defensive backs coach at Wofford in 2020.

Jarrod Sanders Jr. joins the staff as defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator. He served last season as a graduate assistant at West Florida, coaching the nickel backs. He spent the 2022 season at Coffeyville Community College, where he served as recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach, and also spent two years at Hutchinson Community College, where he coached defensive backs.

Jordan Hopgood joins Benedict as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. Hopgood joins Benedict from Savannah State, where he served as running backs coach. He also has been a running backs/tight ends coach at West Virginia Wesleyan, tight ends coach at Jackson State, running backs coach at Morgan State and return specialist coach at Howard.

DaVon Smith returns as running backs graduate assistant coach. A former Tiger running back, Smith graduated from Benedict in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management, and is currently working on a master’s degree in sport management.

Shannon Showers joins Benedict as a defensive backs graduate assistant. Showers played at West Florida for two seasons after transferring from Southern Mississippi. In his final season with the Argos, he recorded 66 total tackles with one interception, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
