Alabama A&M Women’s Basketball to Open SWAC Tournament Play on Wednesday

The league office released the bracket for the 2023 Cricket Wireless SWAC Women’s Basketball Tournament presented by Starry seeding, with No. 2 Alabama A&M set to face off against No. 7 Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday, March 8, at Bartow Arena.

The Bulldogs (14-14, 12-6 SWAC) are slated to compete in an 11:00 a.m. tip on Wednesday in the tourney’s opening game. The SWAC Digital Network will have the broadcast.

Alabama A&M split the season series against UAPB, taking a 67-58 win in Huntsville on January 2, while falling on the road on February 13 by a score of 60-57. The other top-four seeds in the SWAC Tourney are No. 1 Jackson State, No. 3 Alabama State and No. 4 Southern.

A&M will be competing for their first ever SWAC Tournament crown, coming in as the No. 2 seed behind Jackson State for the second straight year. The Bulldogs will look to advance past the quarterfinal round for the first time since the 2019-20 season, as they were primed for a battle in the semifinals until the cancelation of the remainder of the season.

This marks the fourth straight appearance for the tournament in Bartow Arena after it previously was held in the Bill Harris Arena in 2019, also in Birmingham.
