Top new business to start

new business

It seems that many people across America are looking for a way to start a new business for better income and to avoid having a boss above them. But, in many cases, they are not sure what the best new business to start is. This is not a surprise because there are literally hundreds of different businesses out there. If you are looking for an answer to this question, you should know that there is no universal answer. This depends on many factors, but what is important to understand is that you can analyze the effects of your decision only if you go for it. If you perform a brief research related to the market today, you will notice that some seemingly simple products and services are very popular among consumers. This gives hope to many prospective businesspersons that they can become successful too. While it is true that no one can name a specific business, and tell you that if you choose that business you will become successful, it is also true that there are some business ideas that look promising. We will now share some of these ideas with you.

Per many experts, entering the pet business can be a great idea for a small business. This is a great option for people who enjoy spending some time with animals. Latest statistics show that the number of pet owners is growing constantly and rapidly in the last 15 years and this trend won’t change soon. Anything from establishing a professional dog walking service to pet food supplying can work. Every city has thousands of pet owners who are interested in investing in anything that can make their dogs, cats, lizards, parrots, pigs and other animals happy and healthy. These people don’t hesitate to spend a lot of money for their pets.

Another good business idea is to start a business related to green practices or green technology. Besides the number of pet lovers, the number of people who are becoming eco-aware is increasing too. These people are looking for a way to contribute to preserving our nature. If you have the money, you can start a recycling company or set up a removal service. You can also sell any kind of green products. If you want to be even more specialized, you can focus on e-waste or electronic waste which is becoming a huge problem these days.

Panthers Fall to Hokies 39-36

For weeks, the headlines said that the Pitt Panthers were going to beat the Virginia Tech Hokies based on reputation. After all, they’ve beaten the Hokies the last few years-especially on National Television. After their impressive victory over the Virginia Cavaliers, the Panthers were expected to beat the Hokies and become Bowl eligible for the 8th straight year.

Well once again, that is why you play the game.

The Panthers had to put those Bowl-eligible plans on hold as they started awful and paid the price in a disappointing 39-36 loss to the Hokies in front of a nationally televised game at Heinz Field. ESPN was hoping to see another Pitt upset, instead they saw just how good the Hokies are this season.

Virginia Tech got things started with 2 Joey Slye field goals to give them a 6-0 lead the second one came quickly after the first when Pitt fumbled the kickoff but was unable to get it into the end zone thanks to Pitt’s pass rush. But it didn’t get any better for Pitt when QB Nate Peterman’s 2nd pass landed into the hands of Virginia Tech for an interception.

The Hokies took over at Pitt’s 30-yard line, but once again couldn’t convert due to Pitt’s inspired defense, forcing them to punt. Pitt took over at their own 9 and did nothing, resulting in their first punt of the game. The Hokies took over at their own 49 to close out the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Hokies once again were unable to get the ball into the end zone as Pitt’s run defense smothered QB Jerod Evans, but they extended their lead to 9-0 on Slye’s 3rd FG. But Pitt once again did nothing as Peterman almost threw his 2nd interception of the game as he continued to look out of sorts. Pitt once again punted the ball back to the Hokies who took over, did nothing and punted the ball back to the Panthers who took over at their own 16 and took it 8 plays and 84 yards into the end zone for their first TD of the game, closing the Hokies lead to 9-7.

The Hokies then scored their first TD of the game when Evans found TE Chris Cunningham for the score. The drive covered 7 plays 76 yards extending their lead to 16-7. But the Panthers quickly responded on a 5-play 81-yard drive that was capped by a 1-yard TD by Conner. The big play on that drive was an impressive 71-yard pass play by Peterman to TE Scott Orndoff. The Hokies let the last 10 seconds run out to end the first half.

In the second half, Pitt received the ball and ran it right down the Hokies throats on a 7 play-75-yard drive that was capped by a 1-yard TD by Conner, his 3rd of the game giving Pitt a 21-16 lead. The Hokies then added another Sly FG-his 4th to close the Panthers lead to 21-19. The Panthers took over at their own 25, did nothing and punted the ball back to the Hokies took over at their own 44. The Hokies then regained the lead on Slye’s 5th FG of the game, 22-21.

Pitt did nothing on their second straight drive and were forced to punt, the Hokies took over at their own 32. However, the Hokies kept scoring as RB Marshawn Williams ran it in from the 2-yard line extending their lead to 29-21. Evans returned to the game after sitting out a drive and continued to do the one thing that has hurt the Panthers all season-throw it long and deep on their defensive backs.

Pitt then woke up and tied the game with a 5-yard run by O-lineman Brian O’Neil and a Conner 2-point conversion. The drive covered 4 plays, 75 yards. But the Hokies snatched the lead back when Sly kicked his 6th FG of the game, giving them a 32-29 lead. His 6 FGs tied an ACC record. Pitt was unable to convert on their next drive and were forced to punt back to the Hokies, who took over at their own 43 and drove it right into the end zone as Evans continued to exploit the Panthers secondary as he found WR Isaiah Ford for a 16-yard TD extending their lead to 39-29.

The Panthers then went on a 90-yard drive to score their 4th TD of the game when Peterman found WR Jester Weah for a 7-yard TD to close the Hokies gap to 39-36 with 2:27 left. Virginia Tech forced Pitt to use their 3 timeouts to secure the victory.

Evans had a career game as he passed for 406 yards and 2 TDs. WR Bucky Hodges caught 6 passes for 145 yards, Ford 10 rec for 143 yards and Cam Philips caught 6 for 109 yards as they totally decimated the Panthers secondary. For the Panthers Conner was the true star as he rushed for 141 yards and 3 TDs. Orndoff caught 96 yards on only 2 receptions and Peterman passed for 267 yards, a TD and an INT.

The most alarming stat: Virginia Tech only punted once the entire game.

“Obviously, it’s a disappointing loss.” Said Pitt HC Pat Narduzzi “We left way too many plays on the field. It is what it is. You gotta make plays.”

Ray’s take: Seriously, what is wrong with the Panthers secondary?? I honestly believe that there is a memo sent to the rest of the ACC that the key to beating Pitt-is to just ‘throw the ball’. It’s one thing when the other team is just flat-out better, but it seems like the Panthers DB lack talent, fundamentals and the heart to cover the WRs..this is what’s hurting this team. You can also point the fingers at the offensive line as well for their mental mistakes at the beginning of the game. Plus, they looked sloppy and the Hokies capitalized. And next week the Panthers have The U, in Miami next week. Great.

After Miami, the Panthers will have their greatest test of their 2016 season when they take on #3 Clemson in South Carolina.

Facts About Heart Disease

Many health conditions can result in what is termed heart diseases, such as arrhythmias, heart infections, coronary artery disease, diseases that affect blood vessels and congenital heart defects. The most common meaning of heart disease is any blockage in the blood vessels, arteries or the heart’s valves, which can result in a heart attack or stroke.

There are many things that put a person at a higher risk of developing heart disease. Some factors are out of a person’s control. For example, the older you are the more likely it is you will develop heart disease. Men are at an increased risk, but women’s risk goes up after menopause. Also, having a family history of heart disease makes it much more likely that you will experience the condition.

Not everything that increases a person’s risk for heart disease is out of that person’s control. Eating a poor diet that consists of high amounts of fat, salt and cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease. Smoking is another huge contributor to heart problems. Not managing high blood pressure or diabetes through medication and lifestyle changes also increases a person’s risk. Being overweight, leading a sedentary lifestyle and not properly managing stress are all things within a person’s scope of control that also increase his risk for heart disease.

How can someone tell they might have heart disease? There are several warning signs to watch for. Chest pain and shortness of breath are obvious symptoms, but many people write them off as indigestion or fatigue. If your legs or arms experience sudden pain, turn numb without reason or are constantly cold, this is a definite warning sign that something is wrong with your cardiovascular system. Other possible signs include experiencing lightheadedness on a regular basis, fainting and feeling a fluttering sensation in your chest.

If you suspect you or someone close to you is suffering from heart disease, medical attention is needed to properly diagnose and manage the situation. The doctor might prescribe medications to lower your blood pressure, thin out your blood or lower your cholesterol. If medications alone are not enough to manage your heart condition, the doctor might recommend undergoing various medical procedures such as angioplasty or coronary artery bypass surgery.

Medications and medical procedures are not the only ways to manage heart disease. Making certain lifestyle changes can at least help with your condition. If you smoke, you need to quit immediately. Take any diabetes or blood pressure medicines faithfully, and monitor your cholesterol levels. Change your eating habits so you consume more foods with low saturated fats, whole grains, and vegetables. Exercise regularly and work to lower your weight if you are overweight. These changes may take time, but each day that passes that you continue with your current lifestyle can actually bring you closer to your grave.

Helpful Advice About Personal Fitness And Health

Fitness can be an exciting thing. In terms of taking better care of yourself and sculpting your body so that you can live a happier and healthier life is truly an exciting thing. To start learning some basics as to how to make this work for you, refer to the tips below.

Exercise alone isn’t going to be enough to get you in top shape. Just because you exercise for 30 minutes every day doesn’t mean you can eat fast food all the time. You also need to use healthy eating habits to get the full effect and to get your body in its best shape.

Exercising with your dog can be a great motivator. Having to take your dog out can increase the frequency of your workouts as well as your enjoyment. Some health clubs even offer classes or activities that can be done with your pet, such as “doggy yoga”!

Having trouble keeping up with your exercise? If you only train in a gym, that might be part of the reason why. Try some outdoor exercising so that you can enjoy fresh air and nature. This will invigorate your workout routine and breath new life into your commitment to fitness.

Watch for your club’s special offers. Most clubs offer discounts on different training programs on a monthly basis. This opportunity can not only bring you the extra help you need to reach the fitness level you want, but also gives you the opportunity to do it at a discounted price.

Participate in kickboxing if you enjoy martial arts. The way this hybrid martial art form is taught and practiced in fitness training will promote general fitness and agility. It will improve your joint’s flexibility, your cardio health, and endurance. Besides promoting your health, the kicks and punches you learn can also be used in self-defense.

You can actually fool your body into thinking that it has lifted more weight than you actually have. You can do this by shifting your focus entirely to your dominate hand. This somehow causes a mentality that you are stronger and that you can lift more weight. Thinking that way can cause you to actually be able to lift more weight so that you can increase the benefits of your workout.

If you are trying to lose some of your gut, stick with aerobic exercise, not crunches or sit-ups. Crunches are not too helpful when it comes to losing that spare tire. In fact, studies have shown that to burn just one pound of fat with crunches, you’d need to do two-hundred and fifty thousand of them! If you did one hundred crunches daily, you’d have that pound burned in seven years. Look elsewhere to trim the fat.

Check your pulse to see if you need time off. If you had a strenuous workout, check your pulse the next morning. If it is still elevated at all, your body is telling you it needs time to repair itself. Take it easy for a day.

Make sure you understand the fitness terms before you begin. you need to know what sets, cardio, and low-impact means, along with other terms found in the fitness world. You can look up fitness terms on the internet, or ask a personal trainer, and you will be able to find all that you need to know.

If you struggle following a fitness plan, try asking some friends to join you. Exercising with a buddy helps keep you motivated. By working out with your friend, you will push each other to reach your fitness goals faster.

Trying to get your stomach into shape? Protect the alignment of your neck when you do crunches. Exercise does a body good – but if improperly done – it can cause injuries! During crunches, place your tongue up against the roof of your mouth. This helps you stay focused on proper alignment and keeps you doing crunches in proper form!

Encourage your children to be active to help the whole family stay fit! Beginning early will help children set and keep fitness goals throughout their entire lives. Making exercise a family activity can also be a great way to bond and encourage everyone to exercise. It can be as simple as choosing a day to play catch in the backyard or by taking a class together.

While many products promise to get rid of your beer belly and eliminate troublesome fat around the midsection, one of the best routes to core strength is very simple: running. Running burns fat and calories at a high rate. Abdominal strength and muscle training is important, but weight loss and fat burning come through cardiovascular exercise, as well.

Do not do your normal exercise routine when you are feeling under the weather. Even when you have a head cold, it is better to take the day off. The body will use its resources to heal the sickness and not build muscle.

A great fitness tip for basketball players is to run through dribbling drills while wearing leather or canvas gloves. The heavier materials will force your hands to become more sensitive which will result in much better ball control when you take the gloves off. Many NBA uses this technique to help their game.

A great fitness tip for baseball and softball players is to play football. Believe it or not, the recreational game is great at improving hand-eye coordination. It is an excellent way to raise your batting average while having fun at the same time. Make an effort to hit the football directly in the center each time.

Even though the seasons are changing and the weather is turning cold, there are still plenty of outdoor activities for children. They can help with raking up fallen leaves in the fall and after snow falls, they can have snowball fights, go sledding down the hills or build snowmen.

So, now do you see why fitness is such an exciting thing? Discovering your own fitness plan and working upon it to make yourself stronger, leaner, and healthier is definitely exciting. The tips above should have created a good foundation for you to build upon and find your own fitness routine.

Jones, Steelers can’t hang with Patriots, fall 27-16

The Pittsburgh Steelers knew what they were facing when they welcomed the New England Patriots into Heinz Field. They were just coming off a humiliating 30-15 loss to the then-1-4 Miami Dolphins, they have an obviously struggling defense, and have several injuries at several critical positions including Quarterback as Pro-Bowler Ben Roethlisberger is recuperating from a meniscus tear in his left knee. But since there no weather postponements in football, the Steelers still had to suit up their remaining healthy players and face the then 5-1 Patriots.

QB Landry Jones, who started in place of Roethlisberger made only his 3rd start in a career that began in 2013. For the first time in his career, he started the season as the #2 QB, knowing that he could play a few more weeks as Roethlisberger heals. He also knew that he would be facing a tall order vs. the Patriots who have only seen 2 Steeler QB’s in the Bill Belichick era before Jones: Kordell Stewart and Roethlisberger.

Jones was adequate and didn’t lose the game for the Steelers as he brought them back from a 14-0 deficit. He passed for 281 yards, a TD and an INT. But Jones couldn’t win the game for the Steelers either as his one TD wasn’t enough to overcome wasted drives and would-be TDs that led to field goals as the Steelers lost to the Patriots 27-16, falling to 4-3 after a promising 4-1 start.

It wasn’t totally Jones fault, as the defense once again couldn’t keep the opposing offense out of the end zone and the special teams as K Chris Boswell missed 3 field goals which caused the Steelers to end those drives without any points. That’s never good enough against a team like the Patriots who know how to get the ball into the end zone.

The Steelers coaching staff also didn’t call a good game as their decisions to settle for those field goals instead of going for it on 4th down had many folks scratching their heads, especially on that 54-yard FG attempt which is not easy to make at Heinz Field no matter who the kicker is.

In the end, it still resulted in the Patriots beating the Steelers for the 9th time since 2002 They only won 3 times in that span as well-all with Roethlisberger at QB. The Patriots improve to 6-1, once again proving that they’re once again one of the best teams in the NFL.

But make no mistake, the Steelers had their opportunities to punch the Patriots in the mouth early in the game. After they recovered the ball from the Patriots on and opening punt, Jones and the Steelers drove down the field and looked like they were going to take an early 7-0 lead, but Jones pass into the end zone was not close enough to land in the hands of WR Antonio Brown, but instead landed into the hands of CB Malcolm Butler, hero of Super Bowl 49. And how did QB Tom Brady and the Patriots respond? By driving 80 yards on 13 plays as Brady found WR James White for a 19-yard TD to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead.

The Steelers did nothing on their next drive and punted the ball back to the Patriots and what did they do? Score again, of course. This time they drove 80 yards on 11 plays that ended with former Steeler RB LeGarrette Blount running 3 yards into the end zone extending the Patriots lead to 14-0.

Despite the deficit, it still seemed like Jones had something to prove to the Patriots, and he did so on the next drive as he led the Steelers down the field after a 51-yard bomb to Brown and then got them into the end zone when he found WR Darius Heyward-Bey for the 14-yard TD, closing the Patriots lead to 14-7.

That brought the sold-out Heinz Field to life along with the Steelers defense as they put the pressure on Brady on the next drive, forcing them to punt. Jones and the Steelers went on another impressive drive and got them into the red-zone. Jones then found Heyward-Bey on what appeared to be a game-tying TD, but an offensive holding call squashed that chance and it got even worse when Boswell missed the 42-yard FG attempt.

The Steelers had another chance to tie the game before the end of the second quarter, but Jones couldn’t get the ball into the end zone. But this time, Boswell would connect from 32 yards, closing the Patriots lead to 14-10. In the 3rd quarter, after the Patriots did nothing on their first drive, the Steelers went to work once more, but could manage 3 points once again as Boswell’s 46-yard FG closed the Steelers lead to 14-13.

Most Steeler fans would probably be happy that their team drew within a point of the big, bad Patriots, but if you truly knew Brady and the Patriots, then it would be short-lived, and it was. On the next drive, Brady and the offense took a page out of the Steelers running attack and ran the ball right down the Steelers throats. Blount did most of the damage on the ground, getting several first downs while running over several Steelers in the process and when Brady threw the ball, he found TE Rob Gronkowski for a 36-yard TD, extending the Patriots lead to 20-13 (missed extra point)

That missed extra point was huge for the Steelers, because they were a TD away from tying the game. Problem is, that didn’t happen as they had to settle for another Boswell FG to close the Patriots lead to 20-16. Once again, the Patriots didn’t allow that close lead to last long as they scored once again when Blount scored his second TD of the game, extending their lead to 27-16. The Steelers final chance came when Boswell would miss that 54-yard FG, after that, the game was basically over as both teams were unable to convert. The Patriots took a knee to seal the win with seconds left.

Brady passed for 22 yards and 2 TDs, Blount ran for 127 yards and 2 TDs and Gronkowski caught 4 passes for 93 yards and the TD. For the Steelers, Bell rushed for 81 yards, and Brown caught 7 passes for 106 yards before leaving the game with cramp-related injuries.

Ray’s Take: The Steelers ‘played to win’ on only two drives that almost tied the game, but the rest of the game, they ‘played not to lose’-and if you’ve been watching the Patriots since 2001, that’s not a good thing to do, because that team always plays to win. You can say what you want about Tom Brady and Co, they get it done. The Problem with the Steelers is, they didn’t, not just because Jones wasn’t consistent, they could beat them most of the times when Roethlisberger was the QB.

But if Big Ben did play in this game, I think the Steelers would’ve won, because he wouldn’t have wasted most of those Red-Zone opportunities. Jones didn’t have the skills to take it to the next level-the type of level needed to beat the Patriots. The defense couldn’t solve Blount and Gronk, Boswell missed FGs and the coaching staff coached like they ate some bad food. Yes, the Steelers hung with the Patriots, but if you want to be considered the best, you must beat the best-not just hang with them…

The Steelers have a bye week, which will benefit those who are injured (especially Roethlisberger) and will return to action November 6th when they face the Baltimore Ravens.

Adverse Childhood Experiences

The Heinz Awards, created in memory of Pittsburgh native and late US Senator John Heinz (R-PA), bestowed this year’s award for the Human Condition to Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. Dr. Burke Harris, whose 2014 TedMed talk has been viewed over 2 million times, has tirelessly campaigned to raise awareness of toxic stress caused by Adverse Childhood Experiences, which greatly diminish long-term health and life expectancy. Burke Harris created the Center for Youth Wellness (CYW) in 2011, whose mission is to “improve the health of children and adolescents exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACES.” The Center’s website provides a relatable explanation of how toxic stress can hijack one’s normal and adaptive life-saving instinct:

Imagine that you see a bear while walking through a forest. In response to this threat,     your body switches into “fight or flight” mode. To survive, your body releases     emergency stress hormones, like adrenaline and cortisol, that cause your heartbeat to     quicken, make your eyes dilate and focus your mind on the threat at hand—everything     you need to get your body ready to run or to fight back. When activated occasionally,     this system bypasses our thinking brain—the prefrontal cortex—and activates the     primitive reactions that can get us out of the way of a mortal threat. In situations like     this, stress is helpful—it keeps you alive. The problem comes when our system is     overtaxed by repeated, intense or chronic stress. That cascade of chemicals and     reactions goes from saving one’s life to damaging one’s health. Children are especially     vulnerable to the harmful effects of chronic stress and trauma.

If these experiences go unnoticed and untreated, all levels of health–physical, emotional and mental–will be compromised. The ACES Too High website cites that children subjected to ACES (i.e., physical and/or sexual abuse, domestic violence, parental incarceration, divorce and substance abuse) and seeking relief are at an increased risk for substance abuse, suicide and maladaptive coping mechanisms such as overeating, sexual promiscuity and self-harming behaviors. Dr. Burke Harris’ Center for Youth Wellness employs interventions to address both parents and children in an attempt to mitigate the effects of and decrease the occurrence of ACES. After thorough health screenings, families in need are provided or referred for home visits, therapy, and education centering on health, well-being and mindfulness coping skills such as breathing exercises, progressive relaxation, meditation and mindfulness-based awareness.

Despite empirical evidence linking racial discrimination to adverse health outcomes, this particular stressor seems to be largely left out of the discussion of ACES. While the majority of ACES transcend racial lines, two recent studies highlight the importance of recognizing and addressing childhood stress caused by racial bias and prejudice. A recently published study conducted by Yale’s Child Study Center showed that implicit racial bias towards black boys–who are statistically the group most likely to be suspended or expelled–begins in pre-school and is perpetrated by both white and black teachers. Researchers used eye-tracking technology to document teachers who were asked to view classroom recordings and keep an eye out for potential misbehavior. Black boys received the most scrutiny from both black and white teachers compared to white boys and black and white girls. The researchers noted that black teachers seemed to have “stern–perhaps unrealistically stern–expectations of black preschooler’s behavior”, while white teachers harbored much lower expectations for their behavior.

Here in Pittsburgh, the “State of Girls” report released by the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work and Gwen’s Girls, conceded that African American girls are suspended at 3 times the rate of white girls as well as being referred to the juvenile justice system at a rate of 11 times more than their white counterparts. Gwen’s Girls Executive Director Kathi Elliott shared with 90.5 WESA that while the clear evidence of high rates of bias was “surprising”, it also legitimizes the shared experiences of the girls impacted by such bias and necessitates the call for collaboration and intervention.

Pitt Freshmen gets some ‘looks’ in team’s annual Scrimmag

Since there isn’t an official training camp in College Basketball, the annual scrimmage means a lot to those respective programs. Yes, the practices also take place, as well as the Summer Leagues, but as the upcoming season looms there’s nothing like getting the ‘feel’ of what it would be like to play on that level-while continuing to receive instruction from their Head Coach.

The veteran players benefit from it as their skills get fine-tuned and the incoming freshmen benefit from it as it’s basically the first time they play competitive college ball. In the annual scrimmages, they play in their home arena, in front of their home fans. They also have the cheerleaders, the mascot, the referees and the public announcer. But since they’re playing each other, the scrimmage is basically a glorified practice.

On Saturday, The Pitt Panthers basketball team had their scrimmage at Petersen Events Center in front of their fans. Like their football program, it was a Blue and gold game that was free to the public. This scrimmage was significant to the team because it was the first one under new HC Kevin Stallings, who took over for longtime Coach Jaime Dixon, who departed to coach TCU, which is his alma mater.

Stallings first directive for his new team was to instill a more up-tempo offense not only to create more scoring opportunities for the team, but also for competing in the faster-more finesse Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) which Pitt has been a part of since 2013. Many media types feel that Dixon’s offense just wasn’t a good fit in the ACC but a better fit in their previous conference-the old Big East.

The Up-tempo offense was introduced to the hundreds of fans who showed up at the Pete. And although it wasn’t any true scoring or stats, every member of the team had a chance to show what they got on the floor-something that most of those players won’t see during the regular season.

Seniors forwards Mike Young and Jamel Artis were Pitt’s leading scorers the past 2 seasons and they played on opposite teams and as they demonstrated their skills, it was just another day at the office for both as they scored the baskets and grabbed the rebounds. The same for fellow senior F Sheldon Jeter, the team’s 3rd-leading scorer. Redshirt senior G Chris Jones was also able to put in work as he will begin the season as the team’s 6th Man and spot starter.

But for junior F Ryan Luther, this scrimmage was more critical to him because this upcoming season will give him the opportunity to crack the starting lineup. Sophomore G Cameron Johnson demonstrated his skills with hopes of getting through an entire season with a clean bill of health. Fellow Sophomore G Damon Wilson hopes to build off an impressive freshman season. And then there’s redshirt-junior center Rozelle Nix who was a junior college transfer last season but didn’t play a game-because of injury. He got extensive playing time in the scrimmage, getting rebounds in the paint, getting dunks on offense and even made a jumper. His presence in the middle would be huge if he’s able to prove to the coaching staff that he’s ready.

Sophomore Ryan Seeve didn’t play much last season and benefitted from the scrimmage by also showing what he can do from the forward position. Pitt also added redshirt G Jonathan Milligan who proved that he could shoot and bring the ball up the court, and walk-on junior G Zach Smith hopes to provide depth to the team.

As was mentioned before, the freshmen of the team benefitted from this scrimmage the most as they got a taste of the College Basketball Experience. F Corey Manigault, and guards Crisshawn Clark and Justice Kithcart took the floor and demonstrated talents that they hope will not only make an impression to the team, but also to the fans.

Clark made the most impression as he showcased his ball-handling skills and jump shot as he got the ball into the hoop several times. Kithcart also showed that he could shoot and Manigault provided skills in the paint.

The scrimmage wasn’t made up of 2 halves-like a regular game. Instead, it was several 5-minute rounds in which Stallings oversaw from certain areas of the court and even stopped play to give instruction before the crowd.

Talk about on-the job training.

Except for the center position where either Dix or Young could play, the main question is who will play point guard? In the team’s Media Day, Stallings stated that Artis would be the point guard, which Artis seemed excited about. But if Clark or Milligan can make enough of an impression, maybe Artis will move back to his original spot at Small Forward.

The Panthers next tune-up for the regular season will be their only exhibition game vs. Pitt-Johnstown Saturday Nov. 5th at the Petersen Events Center. Then their regular season begins Nov 11th against Eastern Michigan.

Time will tell what this team will look like, but with a new Head Coach, a new offense and incoming freshman talent, the potential of an exciting season is very promising.

  1. Pitt football continues to get national recognition as several players received honors from either the Atlantic Coast Conference, College Football All-America, and others. Awesome accomplishments and I know the school is very proud.
  2. SafetyJordan Whitehead and wide receiver Quadree Henderson were honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference today for their performances in the Panthers’ 45-31 victory at Virginia. I’ll talk more about that game later, but these 2 players had clutch plays that earned them this honor.
  3. Henderson, DE Ejuan Price & Offensive Lineman Dorian Price were also named Mid-Season All-Americans by the Sporting News, and That’s pretty huge, especially for Price as he continues to increase his NFL stock. Johnson was also named All-American by Congrats to these young men.
  4. As for Pitt’s win on Saturday, I admit that I was impressed. It looked like the usual ‘get smacked in the face that leads to a loss’ but the Panthers hung in there and then Whitehead’s 59-yard INT return gave Pitt a lead that they would never relinquish. That was inspiring. Virginia may have had a worse record, but they played tough and Pitt beat them.
  5. What also impressed me about that game was how the defense played in the 2nd They kept the pressure on Virginia’s QB and kept them from scoring a TD the rest of the game. Not bad. Yes, their secondary still has issues, but that performance can only strengthen their confidence.
  6. I also liked how Pitt HC Pat Narduzzi used RB James Conner more in this game. He finished with 90 yards and 2 TDs and was rolling over folks. No matter how deep a position is, you must know how to play the ‘hot hand’ when needed and Conner was that ‘hot hand’ in that game.
  7. I also liked how Conner was used on defense and he also got a sack. His spin move on that offensive lineman was awesome too. Like Whitehead, if Conner could play both ways, he certainly would.
  8. So now the Panthers are 5-1 and 2-1 in the ACC. They’re a win away from being Bowl Eligible-something that they’ve been since 2008. No, some of those bowls may not have been so impressive (ex: BBVA Compass Bowl) but it totally looks good in their school’s history. To get that 6th win, they must beat a decent Virginia Tech team something that Pitt hasn’t had too much trouble doing in the past 10 years.
  9. And just in case you forgot Pitt fans: This is a bye week. In other words, they’re off. Pitt’s game vs. Virginia Tech is Thursday, October 27th. You’re welcome.
  10. As for the rest of College Football, here’s the weekly AP Top 5: 1. Alabama, 2. Ohio State (no surprises there) 3. Michigan, 4. Clemson (Still the ACC’s best team) and 5. Washington. Wisconsin (HC Paul Chryst’s team) is 10th, the other ACC ranked teams are: Louisville at #7, Florida St (13), and North Carolina (22) West Virginia is the only ranked local team ranked 12th.
  11. As they prepare for their yearly scrimmage, Pitt basketball was also in the news as Senior forwardMichael Young is one of 20 watch list members for the 2017 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Thursday. Young, a third team All-ACC selection a year ago, averaged 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 53.7 percent from the field for the Panthers last season.
  12. That’s a tremendous honor for Young, who can build on his NBA stock with a good 2016-17. And I hope he does because his team will need him on both sides of the court more than ever this season. Hopefully, he will not be playing center and can focus on his natural position at power forward.
  13. And now onto the NFL which means those Pittsburgh Steelers as they endured another horrible loss time to the Miami Dolphins, who spanked them in a 30-15 victory Sunday. Another case of taking a so-called lesser team for granted, and they paid for it. But obviously, the main concern is the injury to QB Ben Roethlisberger who tore his meniscus in Sunday’s game.
  14. The early reports were that Big Ben will be out for only 2 weeks, but now they’re saying that he may be out 4-6 weeks, which would hopefully have him active Dec 4th the NY Giants. I honestly hope it doesn’t take that long, and I know you do too.
  15. So, that leaves backup QB Landry Jones who has the ‘fun’ task of starting his first game of 2016-vs. the New England Patriots (5-1) Sunday. Nobody certainly didn’t want that scenario, but it’s a reality. I don’t trust Jones’ skill set. The only advantage that he has is the fact that the Patriots have never seen him, but that’s not too comforting.
  16. I figure that the Steelers will shorten the playbook for Jones and limit him to short passes while the running game does the bulk of the work. It may work, provided they can get into the end zone early and often vs. the Patriots.
  17. But the big question is, what will the defense do? In all my years of watching Steeler football, I have never seen a defense play so horrible. In those 2 losses, they embarrassed the Steeler legacy, which was built on defense. They looked overconfident and lazy out there and that can be fixed provided they get their heads together.
  18. Also: The NFL is looking at Dolphins DT Ndamukong Suh’s kick on Big Ben’s lead Sunday. Apparently, Suh still hasn’t learned to stop with the cheap shots.
  19. In MLB playoffs: The Cleveland Indians are in the World Series after beating the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 in the ALCS. And they did it the only way to succeed in the playoffs: Good pitching.
  20. So apparently, my World Series champion pick of the Toronto Blue Jays didn’t happen. Well, I’ve decided to stay in the AL with my champion pick: I’m going with the Indians over the LA Dodgers. We shall see.

Build A Solid Fitness Plan With The Help Of These Ideas

Do you feel low in energy sometimes? Maybe you get tired easily after a brief period of physical activity. These can be signs that you are not physically fit. If you want your body to become healthier and stronger, there are many ways to do it. Here are some ideas that you can use.

Make sure that you drink a minimum of sixty-four ounces of water each day to ensure that your body stays properly hydrated. You should also drink an additional sixteen ounces of water for every hour of moderate or high-intensity workout that you perform. You don’t want to risk your body becoming dehydrated.

Running is one of the best forms of exercise you can do to get into shape. Try your best to at least attempt a jog every other day or so. You can slowly increase your pace and before you know it, you’re burning a lot of calories. When it comes to running it’s all a mindset, so get your mind strong and your body will follow.

Military pushups are a good modification for regular pushups. They provide more resistance for your arms and chest and give you more results in strength and fitness. To go from a normal pushup to a military pushup, simply move your arms inward from shoulder length apart to less than shoulder width. Then do pushups like normal.

Need to get more from your workout time? You may be able to increase your muscle strength by as much as twenty percent through simple stretching. Take about a half a minute to stretch your muscles between sets. Just the right stretch will guard against muscle strain and make your workout more effective.

If cycling is your exercise mode of choice, you can increase the efficiency, endurance, and coordination of your muscles by pedaling your bicycle using only one leg at a time, then alternating after every three to five minutes. This helps to engage all muscles in the leg by distributing the work evenly up and down the entire length of your legs and feet.

Help your muscles become more flexible. Some muscles are naturally more flexible than others. But the ones that aren’t so flexible and feel tight, should be stretched at least two times more than our already flexible muscles. Muscles which are typically tight are the lower back, shoulders, and hamstrings.

Do your arm exercises in isolation. Isolating each individual arm will cause the specific arm to do more work than if you do both arms together. For example, when doing shoulder presses do one set with your right arm and then one with your left. The results will be better by doing each arm in isolation.

One general fitness tip that will help keep your energy level high and in balance is to make sure you “load” (rest and don’t exercise as hard) for a few days after an intense training session. This will give your body time to recover and prepare for the next set of training demands that you will make on it.

Try purchasing a pedometer to keep track of how many steps you take in a day. It is recommended that you should take 10,000 steps per day. If you are not getting this many in, you should work to increase the number. This can help you with your overall weight loss. It is also interesting to see how much you actually move during the day.

To improve your scores on your golf putting, try aiming higher on your breaks. Try estimating what the scores of your breaks are and double those numbers because it will help get you more accurate numbers that you can use to improve them. Knowing these numbers will help you to better them and reach your goals.

If you have jammed a finger playing sports or have a finger that often jams, tape it together with the finger that is next to it. By doing so, you strengthen the finger (two are stronger than one) and lessen the chance that it will turn in a strange angle while playing.

Getting in shape is important to the health of your body and mind. When you are physically fit, you will have more energy to meet the daily demands of your life. Try some of these ideas; start slowly and see what works for you. Be consistent, and before long, your body will become stronger and healthier.

How To Prepare For A Job Interview

Office 004

For most people being employed is not a luxury, but a necessity. Depression sets in quickly and can leave you a mess. You need to do everything in your power to find the job that you need. This article is very useful in giving advice for anyone looking to land a new job.

While job searching, give it you’re all in your current job. You will get a bad reputation if you do not stay focused on your current job. Any potential employer might find out about your poor performance. Success depends on your ability to work to your full potential.

Head to school. At times, discovering the job you want requires that you expand your skills. The greater your knowledge, the more opportunities you will have. Lots of self-guided study options exist that can be built around your schedule.

When dealing with employees, especially lots of them, it is important to maximize their productivity. Think about it. If you have ten super productive employees, you can save yourself, hundreds of thousands of dollars in benefits and wages, as compared to hiring twenty or more employees. As such, find ways to maximize productivity.

Don’t get overly friendly with those that you work with. Keep things as professional as possible and always stay on task. Personal relationships can become difficult and lead to conflict in the workplace. You want to steer clear of disaster so you don’t risk your company position.

Try doing a practice interview before you go to interview for a new job. Have a friend or family member play the role of the interviewer. This will help you be prepared when you go to your interview. It will also help you remain calm and collected when you are at your interview because you are better prepared.

Curb your tongue during the first few months of employment. Remember, you are the new person. You may have a lot of great ideas, but if you stir the pot too early, you may never get a chance to set your ideas in motion. Your first job should be to get all those at your new work to like and trust you.

Prepare an “elevator pitch” about yourself. This is a 30 to a 60-second statement that could be delivered on an elevator ride, hence the name. Include information about your biography and any pertinent career accomplishments. Use the statement on phone interviews or when asked why you should be hired for the job.

A good resume can get you the job you want. Your resume should be organized in a way to give employers a snapshot of your experience and abilities. Past work experience, skills, and educations should be listed on your resume. Highlight any volunteer work that you have done. After writing your resume, look it over to be sure that nothing is missing!

Call your local library to ask what sort of help they could provide you. They may offer free Internet use, allowing you to job search and send resumes online. They may also have seminars on writing resumes or other classes, which could help. Lastly, they may be able to help you print your resumes at an affordable rate.

Set aside money for your job search. People do not realize how pricey it can get to search for a job. If you have a car, you will need money for gas. Also, when you are out job hunting all day, you will want some money to grab a bit to eat.

Call your references. This is important for a few reasons. The first is that they need to be warned that they may be called, plus you should let them know what sort of skills they should be highlighting. Second, their number or email address may have changed, so you need that update.

After an interview, be sure to pick up your phone when the company calls you back. And, if for some reason, you cannot answer, be sure to call them back right away. Waiting too long to return their call will have the company thinking you are not that interested in working for them.

After applying for a few jobs, you should start to get phone calls regarding interviews. How will you answer the phone? You need to make a great first impression on the person that could be hiring you, even if they’re only someone that does the interviews for that company.

Be sure that you are well-groomed before going on your interview. A professional appearance is very important if you want to make a strong, first impression on your interviewer. Wear clothes that are appropriate for the type of job that you are applying for. When you look the part, the hiring manager can visualize how you can fit into his organization.

Be honest on your resume regarding everything. If you have something that you aren’t proud of, don’t mention it on the resume. You have no way of knowing if the truth might be discovered by the potential employer.

Do not make negative comments about past employers. It’s likely that a prospective employer will peruse the social networks to find out more about you. If you don’t post certain things you don’t need to worry.

When starting your job, get some notebooks for taking notes. You’ll probably have a bit of training initially, so there is going to be quite a bit of information thrown your way. Taking notes properly can let you go back and see what you were taught.

Keep an open mind when trying to find a new job. Not only apply for the specific position you are looking for but jobs that are related to that position as well. You might not end up landing the exact position you were looking for, but it will give you an opportunity to get into a company where you can transfer positions down the road.

The keys to getting a new job are having the proper skills and the right presentation. Combined with a pertinent skill set the job is yours. Keep the information that was shared here with you in mind and make good use of it to land a job. This is obtainable as long as you stay with it and don’t give up.
