Winners of five of its last six contests, the Lincoln men’s basketball team will try to remain hot on Saturday (Jan. 28) when the Blue Tigers play Central Missouri at 3:00 p.m. CST. This game, which tips off a three-game homestand for LU, is also the first rematch of the season for the Blue Tigers, who are 12-5 overall and 8-5 in MIAA play. Lincoln is coming a 2-1 performance on a three-game road trip, as LU beat Missouri Western, 59-38, on Jan. 19 and Missouri Southern, 84-82, on Jan. 23 while falling to Northwest Missouri, 59-38, on Saturday (Jan. 21). Central Missouri is 9-10 on the season as well as 5-8 in the MIAA, and has won two of its last three.

A victory on Saturday would be the third in a row at home for Lincoln and would give the Blue Tigers their second three-game home win streak of the season.

Lincoln University Announces Move to GLVC, Additions of Baseball and Men’s & Women’s Soccer

The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced on Thursday (Jan. 26) that Lincoln University (Missouri) has been admitted to the Conference for full-time membership, following a vote of approval by the GLVC Council of Presidents on Monday. In addition to transitioning into the GLVC, the university announced that it will add three sports programs: baseball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer.

“This is a significant day for the future of Lincoln University,” said Dr. John Moseley, President of Lincoln University. “This puts us in a position athletically where we’ve leveled the playing field by realigning ourselves with others of similar size and similar fiscal commitment. This will also give us the opportunity to compete and recruit in areas where Lincoln already has a large alumni base.

“This is an historic day for the GLVC,” said Jim Naumovich, Commissioner of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. “It’s the first time in the 45-year history of the conference that we’ve had an HBCU member. Under the leadership of Dr. Moseley, and what he’s done for Lincoln as the university president, and Dr. Wilson with intercollegiate athletics, it will be a great fit. There’s a lot of enthusiasm behind Lincoln University and we’re thrilled to welcome them into the league and begin competition in the fall of 2024.”

The GLVC is currently one of the largest NCAA Division II conferences in the country, featuring 15 schools and 24 sports.
