We believe it is time to step up our efforts to make America fulfill its obligations to Black Americans. Black Americans have been one of the major forces in making this country the most successful country in the world. We come from a vast and rich legacy of Black American leaders, activists, and reformers, including Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, Shirley Chisholm, and Maya Angelou, to name only a small few.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.”

We, as Black Americans, have added so much to this country. This is our land because we gave much more than we received. Like life, not much is fair, but if we begin to hide in our fears and disappointments, we will let them win more than an election. We must show our pride, determination, and will to rise again and be better. All of us have a responsibility to the youth of our country and, more importantly, to our ancestors to do more and be forceful in our fight to make this country a better place for us to live. We believe that today is an exciting time to start changing the way we do things. Please do not shrink; be out front in your dreams, desires, and goals for yourself, your family, and your community. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until it is done.”

Contact your local government, state, and federal officials. All these official work for YOU. Be proud of who you are and make the most out of your abilities and your opportunity to do more NOW.
