(Pittsburgh,PA) The Pittsburgh Steelers made headlines on the first day of the 2018 NFL Draft. First, they drafted Safety Terrell Edmunds from Virginia Tech, and his pick was announced by Linebacker Ryan Shazier as he walked up to the podium in an emotional moment, before that, the Steelers traded Wide Receiver Martavis Bryant for a 3rd round pick.

Edmunds, played in 37 games, making 31 starts, over a three-year span at Virginia Tech…totaled 182 tackles, including 6.5 stops for losses. In 2017, he was third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection…started all 10 games played, recording 59 tackles including 2.5 tackles for losses and 1.5 sacks, along with three pass break-ups and two interceptions.

“We’re extremely happy to get a young man like Terrell Edmunds because he does fill that void of a nice young defender in the back-end.” Said Steelers GM Kevin Colbert.”He is a very gifted, athletic, physical safety.”

“He was a really fun evaluation for me personally.” Said Steelers HC Mike Tomlin. “Anything that you can imagine him doing, you saw him do at Virginia Tech’s defensive tape within Coach Bud Foster’s scheme. You saw him play free. You saw him play strong…”

Bryant was a 4th Round Draft pick in 2014 and missed the entire 2016 season because of a suspension but returned to haul in 50 receptions for 603 yards and three touchdowns last season.” When it got to the third round, we felt it was something very interesting to us,” Colbert said. “We wish Martavis nothing but the best.”
