MORROW, GA —No. 1 seed Morehouse College is moving on after a 72–62 victory over Edward Waters in the 2026 SIAC Men’s Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at Clayton County Convocation Center on Thursday.
The Maroon Tigers played a physical game while building a double digit halftime advantage and never looked back.
Brandon Peters anchored the offense with a game-high 20 points and 9 rebounds, while shooting a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. Josiah Lawson chipped in 17 points and 3 rebounds to give the Maroon Tigers a reliable one-two punch. JerMontae Hill drained a half-court buzzer beater at the half to extend the lead to 36–25, then sealed the win with a highlight dunk in the final seconds. Hill finished with a double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals.
Edward Waters stayed within striking distance throughout the game. Jahlil Green’s dunk cut the deficit to six at 68–62 with 28 seconds left, threatening to turn a comfortable win into a nail-biter. But Peters was fouled in the backcourt, calmly converted both free throws, and Morehouse’s defense forced a missed three to secure the victory.
With the win, Morehouse advances to the semifinals and will face the winner of Miles College vs. Savannah State on Friday evening. The Maroon Tigers have not won the SIAC men’s basketball tournament title since 2003.
