Birmingham, Alabama — Aysia Proctor had her shot going today and North Texas made sure Florida Atlantic felt every bit of it.
The Mean Green rolled past the Owls 80-57 Wednesday afternoon in a game that was over before halftime was a thought, as North Texas built a 19-point cushion by the break and never let FAU breathe.
Proctor was the story. The guard finished with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting, draining five of eight from three-point range and hitting all three of her free throw attempts. She was efficient, relentless, and made every open look count.
Megan Nestor did the dirty work. The forward posted a double-double — 16 points and 12 rebounds — going a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line and anchoring North Texas’s interior presence all game. Jazzy Owens-Barnett added 13 off the bench and Andi Schissler chipped in 12, giving North Texas four players in double figures.

The Mean Green got going in a hurry, outscoring FAU 19-12 in the first quarter before putting the hammer down with a 23-11 second period to lead 42-23 at the half. From there it was management.
Florida Atlantic had no answer for the turnovers. The Owls gave the ball away 19 times — nearly double North Texas’s 10 — and the Mean Green cashed them in for 21 points off turnovers. FAU shot just 36.7% from the field and connected on only five of twenty three-point attempts.
Vivian Onugha led the Owls , finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds on 58.3% shooting for a double-double. Erin Rodgers added 14.
North Texas shot 44.3% overall, 47.1% from deep, and forced eight steals to go along with the turnover advantage. The Mean Green improve to face Tulsa on March 12 and seem to have the momentum to where they have the potential to make serious run in the conference tournament.
