Howard Volleyball Comes Up Short in Five-Set Thriller at UMBC

Howard University women’s volleyball team came up short in Baltimore, dropping a five-set thriller at UMBC (18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 11-15). With the setback, HU saw its brief two-match win streak come to a halt.

UMBC jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the pivotal third set, but the Bison fought back and regained the upper hand with a 6-1 spark, 6-5. Both clubs went back-and-forth until HU closed out the game with a kill from redshirt sophomore Zenai Jethroe (Dallas) and service ace by freshman Alexys James (Houston), 25-18, and gave HU a 2-1 match advantage.

UMBC battled back and forced game five, hitting .270 in game four while the Bison had nine hitting errors.

In the deciding set, UMBC held off the Bison’s late charge to secure the five-set thriller.

Hornets drop Final Game in the L&D Insurance Invite to UT Rio Grande Valley

The Delaware State volleyball team fell to the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros in straight sets (23-25, 17-25, 14-25) Sunday at JMU Convocation Center. The non-conference loss moved Delaware State to 4-10 on the season.

Emma Patmon finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Hornets offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .429. got 11 digs from Gerren Tomlin to lead them defensively.

Tuskegee Outlasts Claflin in Five-Set Thriller to Remain Unbeaten at Home

Tuskegee volleyball delivered one of its most dramatic performances of the season Tuesday night inside the Daniel Chappie James Center, outlasting SIAC foe Claflin in a five-set battle, 3-2.

The Golden Tigers stormed ahead with early dominance, weathered a furious Panther comeback, and ultimately found the resolve to close out the match with a decisive fifth-set win (25-10, 25-23, 18-25, 26-28, 15-10).

Spartans Cruise to a Battle of the Bay Sweep Against Hampton

Norfolk State volleyball earned its first win of the 2025 season, sweeping Hampton in the “Battle of the Bay” (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) on Tuesday night at Gill Gymnasium.

Gabrielle Gilbert powered the Spartans’ offense with 12 kills, followed by Reagan Chisholm with eight and Catori Crawford with seven. Gilbert, Mya Wood and Briana Ellis each served three aces, while Sydney McCree dished out 32 assists.

XULA completes season sweep, beats Dillard for 29th consecutive time

Xavier University of Louisiana saved two second-set points Monday and earned a 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 women’s volleyball victory against city rival Dillard at Dillard’s Dent Hall.

It was the 29th consecutive time that the Gold Nuggets beat Dillard; the streak started 14 years ago. The match was XULA’s first since a 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 home victory Sept. 10 against Dillard. Kennedy Campbell had 15 kills, Kamea Uitenham had 12, and Taylor Parker had five blocks for XULA (11-3), which won its fourth in a row overall.
