Quinton Gray may have been West Virginia State’s well kept secret until he stepped onto the gridiron. The Yellow Jackets all time leading career receiver (267 receptions for 3364 yards) started the 2017 campaign against Charleston (WV) with 6 receptions for 79 yards and two TDs.Two weeks later the standout senior torched Notre Dame (OH) with 12 catches for 123 yards and another TD and he was just getting started.
Despite the Yellow Jackets 6 win and 5 loss record, the team from Institue,West Virginia never entered a contest with out their guns fully loaded. The WVSU Quarterback (Matt Kinnick) threw for over 29 hundered yards this past season and his favorite target was number 11 (Gray) who hauled in a total of 89 receptions for 982 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Stafford, Virgnia native averaged 11 yards per reception and his game high this past season came in the midst of three games where he had double digit receptions. First against West Liberty, Gray hauled in 10 receptions for 98 yards and a TD. That game was followed by the contest against Fairmont where Gray had 13 catches for 150 yards and another touchdown. That game was followed by the contest against Urbana and in the next to the last game of the season Gray snatched down 13 receptions for 134 yards and 3 TDs.
