Connor Heyward Among Steelers Day 3 Draft Picks

Pittsburgh, Pa-In the final day of the NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers kept the focus mostly on offense, with one addition on defense.

 


Here is a recap of the Steelers Round 4-7 Draft Picks:

Round 4-The Steelers selected WR Calvin Austin III from Memphis. Austin (5-9, 162) had a Stellar career with the Tigers finishing his career ranked second all time in program history in receiving TDs (22), fourth in receiving yards (2,541) and fifth in receptions (156). He also had two 1,000-yard seasons including 1,149 receiving yards in 2021. He was also on the Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List.

“Obviously, we drafted Calvin. Great pick up for us.” Said Steelers WR Coach Frisman Jackson “Really like what we saw on tape when we watched him. He made some plays in the slot and outside as a perimeter wideout. He did some really good things with the ball in his hands, so we’re really. Excited to have him on board.”

 

Round 6-The Steelers selected Michigan State FB/TE Connor Heyward, who is the brother of DT Cam Heyward. With the Spartans, Heyward was a Four-year letter winner played in forty- nine career games with the Spartans from 2017-21, including 28 starts (eight in 2018, one in 2019, six in 2020, 13 in 2021; 15 at running back from 2018-20, 13 at tight end in 2021) he made the position switch from running back to tight end during preseason camp in 2021. He finished his career with 2,265 all-purpose yards (825 rushing, 723 kick return, 711 receiving, six punt return) and scored 11 career TDs (six receiving, five rushing).

“Very excited we got Connor Heyward. Very talented guy. I know he’s done some things, positional flexibility things, and when I saw him as a tight end, I had an opportunity to look at him as a tight end guy and he offered some value.” Said Steelers TE Coach Alfredo Roberts.

 


Round 7-The Steelers selected LB Mark Robinson from Ole Miss. With the Rebels, Robinson Played in 13 games (nine starts) … registered 92 tackles (42 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and three QB hits, ranked second on Ole Miss in tackles and third in Tackles for Loss and recorded a career-best 14 tackles, five Tackles for Loss and 2.0 sacks at Tennessee (10/16) and registered 12 tackles vs. LSU (10/23).

“I know football is important to him. I know he’ll do what he needs to get better on a daily basis.”-Said Steelers LB Coach Brian Flores.

 

Round 7-The Steelers Concluded their Draft by selecting QB Chris Oladokun from South Dakota State. With the Jackrabbits, Oladokun played in fifteen games (15 starts), completed 62.3-percent of his passes (238-of-382) for 3,164 yards and 25 TDs.

registered QB efficiency rating of 149.8 and guided the Jackrabbits to the FCS national semifinals.

“We had good grades coming out of there. Played in the NFLPA game, and we decided we wanted to add another QB to our roster.”-Said Steelers GM Kevin Colbert.

 


Notes: The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with ten undrafted rookie free agents: OT Jake Dixon (Duquesne), RB Mataeo Durant (Duke), DL Donovan Jeter (Michigan), OLB Tyree Johnson (Texas A&M), OLB T.D. Moultry (Auburn), G Chris Owens (Alabama), CB Chris Steele (Southern California), OT Jordan Tucker (North Carolina), RB Jaylen Warren (Oklahoma State), CB Bryce Watts (UMass).
