The Connecticut Huskies captured their 12th NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship with an 82-59 victory over the University of South Carolina Gamecocks in Tampa, Florida. The win ends a nine-year title drought for UConn, marking its first national championship since 2016.
Azzi Fudd led the Huskies with 24 points, putting her scoring skills on full display. Freshman forward Sarah Strong made a powerful statement in her debut season, posting a stellar double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Paige Bueckers added 17 points, closing out her college career with the championship.
The Huskies took control early, heading into halftime with a 36-26 lead. A dominant third quarter, in which they added 26 points, widened the gap and all but sealed the game. UConn’s defense was equally impressive, holding South Carolina to just 59 points and limiting their offensive momentum throughout.
This latest title further cements UConn’s legacy as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball. The efforts from Fudd, Strong, and Bueckers reflect the team’s depth, talent, and determination—laying the groundwork for continued success in the future.
