The University of Pittsburgh placed a department record 343 student-athletes on the annual Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll, marking the third consecutive year Pitt has had over 290 selections to the honor roll. 2022-23 also marks the fourth consecutive year the ACC has recognized more than 5,500 student-athletes for classroom excellence during the most recent academic year.
“The ACC has incredible student-athletes, and we applaud their efforts and successes both on and off the field,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “We are proud to honor a record number of student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom. Congratulations to nearly 6,000 individuals who earned ACC Academic Honor Roll distinction this year and those that tirelessly support them on our 15 campuses.”
Pitt’s 343 recognized this year is 27 more than the previous school-record mark of 316 from 2020-21 and also just the second time Pitt has had 300+ ACC Honor Roll selections.
Overall, the ACC recognized a league record 5,942 student-athletes for classroom excellence during the most recent academic year.
The ACC Academic Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. This marks the most-ever student-athlete honorees and fourth consecutive year in which at least 5,500 ACC student-athletes have achieved Honor Roll status.
Duke, who has led all schools for 35 out of 36 years of the Honor Roll, had an ACC single-year record 641 Honor Roll student-athletes and Virginia placed 568 on the list. Notre Dame (532), North Carolina (503), Boston College (443) and Louisville (404) each had more than 400 student-athletes earn recognition.
Pitt’s Micky Phillippi (wrestling) was one of eight student-athletes to make the ACC Honor Roll for the sixth time.
