Norfolk State Moves Up to No. 19 in Mid-Major Top 25

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s basketball team continues to rise in national polls, earning the No. 19 ranking in the latest CollegeInsider.com Men’s Mid-Major Top 25 rankings.

The recognition marked Norfolk State’s second consecutive week in the ranking, securing the No. 23 slot in the previous edition. NSU (7-3) remains the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the Mid-Major Top 25.

In its 25th season of existence, the Mid-Major poll recognizes the top teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, Conference USA, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, Western Athletic.

The Spartans earned an impressive road victory on Saturday, defeating Illinois State 64-58 at Horton Field House. Jamarii Thomas led the team with a career-high 31 points, adding six rebounds and four assists.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Stony Brook, the first matchup of a two-game road trip in the Empire State. NSU battles Hofstra on Saturday, Dec. 16 to close out the stretch.
