Johnson Receives Peninsula Sports Club’s Female Athlete of the Year Award

NORFOLK, Va. – The Peninsula Sports Club presented Norfolk State University women’s basketball player Diamond Johnson with the Outstanding In-State College/University Female Athlete of the Year award on Monday evening.

The recognition came at the Peninsula Sports Club’s 74th Annual Headliners Night at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

The event celebrated athletic performance, contributions and achievements of individuals in sports and in their communities, as well as superior academic and athletic accomplishment.

College and high school athletes earned a variety of accolades during the event, highlighting those who achieved significant success in their athletic and community endeavors.

Johnson had an incredible 2023-24 campaign, garnering the 2024 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year award, an All-MEAC First Team and All-MEAC Defensive Team selections, and MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Johnson was also named a 2024 Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year semifinalist, the BOXTOROW HBCU Impact Award recipient and selected to the BOXTOROW HBCU All America First Team.

She averaged 20.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.8 steals, 2.9 assists on 43.3 percent shooting from the floor and 38.3 percent beyond the arc across 23 games in her first season as a Spartan.
