Gilbert earned the program’s first ever MEAC Rookie of the Year and All-MEAC First Team selections in school history last season. The six-time MEAC weekly honoree joins 11 returners as well as nine newcomers on the Spartans’ 2024 roster: three transfers and six freshmen.

In 83 sets across 23 matches, Gilbert ranked second in the MEAC in kills per set (3.58) and third in total points (331.5). Gilbert tallied 297 kills, 20 service aces, 128 digs, and 25.0 total blocks with a .267 attack percentage.

Norfolk State finished 9-14 overall in the 2023 season, with a 7-7 MEAC record. The Spartans will hold an exhibition match against Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday, Aug. 24 before the Norfolk State Tournament to open the regular season from Aug. 30-31.
