Anthony Smith – Norfolk State

Members of the Inaugural TAJ-Talented 10th  Black College All-American Team.

During the month of February, (Black History Month) one member of the All-American team will be featured on the UrbanmediaToday.com website daily. Today we put the spot light on:

Norfolk State’s Anthony Smith : (Linebacker)

#11  Red-Shirt Senior
       6’0″  230lbs
    Norfolk, Virginia
(Maury  High School)

#2 Nationally in HBCU Football Total Tackles (124)
#2 Nationally in HBCU Football Tackles Per Game (11.3)
#5  Nationally in FCS Football in Total Tackles (124)
#11 Nationally in FCS Football in Solo Tackles (65) averaging  5.9 Tackles per Game

Talk about taking advantage of an opportunity, Smith who was second amongst all HBCU Football players in total tackles this season started his career at NSU as a Walk-On.

The Norfolk native had to be patient before he would get his time as a starter on the Spartan defense. Smith’s time finally came after spending two years on the sidelines and special teams; the 6’0″ 230 pound Linebacker who earned a scholarship his junior year  made his presence known to all Spartan opponents in 2017 racking up 65 Solo tackles and a total of 124 tackles.

Smith also helped Coach Latrell Scott’s Spartan Defense maintain the second best turnover margin in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (1.42 per game). The Red-Shirt Senior also defended 4 passes and had 3 interceptions this past season.
