Read Sir Jay Boogie’s bio:
DJ Sir Jay Boogie began DJing around sixth or seventh grade. He mastered blending, mixing and scratching at an early age because in his neighborhood it was the “thing” to do. When Boog’s mom relocated from Ohio to California in 1987, he was sent to live with his father in Alabama. By twelfth grade, Jay was DJing high school functions and other local area events. At this point, he had even started to build a collection of dj equipment and still uses some of his original controllers, mixers, and turntables to this day. While attending Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, he was an intern for Radio One. By the time that situation turned into an employment opportunity, Jay was bitten be the “DJ” bug once again.
Sir Jay Boogie began DJing professionally (for money) in 1998. Since then, he has moved crowds, while performing for numerous event promoters and organizations at clubs, comedy shows, step shows, festivals, fund-raisers, corporate events, college parties, receptions, etc. Some of the cities he has performed in are Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Memphis, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Des Moines, Louisville, Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati.
DJ Sir Jay Boogie has opened up for and/or played along side of Boosie Badass, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Keith Murray, 8 Ball & MJG, Slum Village, Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Kid ‘N Play, Poor Righteous Teachers, Pinc Gator, Elevator Jay, Roxanne Shante, Yo-Yo, Lady of Rage, Mia X, Khia, Rasheeda (VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta), Shaunie O’Neal, Omarosa, Esther Baxter, Big Lez (Leslie Segar), Michel’le, Teairra Mari, Sunshine Anderson and Anthony Hamilton. That list also includes comedy standouts Dave Chappelle, Tony Rock, Joe Torry, Kim Whitley, Pierre, Shang, Spike Davis, Dominique, Roland (Lil’ Duval), Leon Rogers, Lavell Crawford and Michael Blackson, aka, The African King of Comedy. Boogie has been blessed with the opportunity to spin parties for Mary J. Blige, Ronnie Laws, New Edition, John Legend and former Cincinnati Bengal, Tim McGhee. In addition, Boog has been heard opening up parties for Kid Capri, DJ Dimepiece, DJ Bandcamp, Mad Linx, DJ Mankind, twice for DJ Green Lantern, and three times for Biz Markie.
The cornerstone of DJ Sir Jay Boogie’s successful “LIVE” performances and sought after mixtapes is his vast knowledge of music which includes, but is not limited to, Rap, R&B, Old School, Reggae, Dancehall, Afro Beat, Go-Go, Zydeco, EDM, House, Salsa, Reggaeton, Rock, Top 40, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Country Western, and Gospel.
