Trade: Steelers pick up a Tight End

Steelers Acquire TE Vannett from Seahawks

( Pittsburgh, Pa) For the second straight week, the Pittsburgh Steelers have traded for a player, and this time, it’s on offense. Last week, the Steelers traded a 1st round and a 5th round pick to Miami for Defensive Back  Minkah Fitzpatrick, this week they traded a 5th round pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Tight End  Nick Vannett.

With starting TE Vance McDonald out with a shoulder injury, the Steelers were very thin and inexperienced at the position with non-blocking Xavier Grimble and unproven rookie Zack Gentry on the Depth Chart, the Steelers needed to make a move. Plus, Jesse James left via Free Agency in the offseason

A 2016 3rd round pick out of Ohio State, the 26-year old Vannett Stands 6-6, 261 and caught 43 passes for 269 yards and 3 TDs in 2018. Prior to the trade, He had 5 catches for 38 yards for the Seahawks this season.

McDonald was injured in the Steelers 24-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and was seen in a sling. Although he doesn’t think he’ll be out long, McDonald does have a long injury history going back to his days with the 49ers, and it’s still not determined if he will play in the 0-3 Steelers Monday Night matchup vs. the 0-3 Cincinnati Bengals.

The Steelers are trying to avoid their worst start since 2013 when they started 0-4 and are doing everything they can to fill needs at certain positions.

Notes: On Tuesday, the Steelers also signed TE Alizé Mack to its practice squad.
