The Greenwood Plan Celebrates Historic Acquisition of the Pitt Building in Downtown Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA – February 29, 2024 – The Greenwood Plan, a nonprofit committed to fostering economic empowerment, is thrilled to announce the successful acquisition of the historic Pitt Building located at 213 Smithfield St., Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

To commemorate this milestone, the official ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.

The purchase of the Pitt Building holds special significance for both Pittsburgh and the broader Black community, symbolizing a renaissance in Black economic growth.

Co-Founder Khamil Bailey expressed the importance of this acquisition, stating, “purchasing The Pitt Building is significant for not only Pittsburgh but Black people in general because it signals a rebirth of Black economic growth and a call back to times of economic prosperity for Black people in this country.”

The event will feature distinguished speakers, including Mayor Ed Gainey, State Representative Areion Abney, and County Executive Sara Innamorato.

Their presence underscores the communal and regional impact of this historic acquisition.
