Sports Gambling Legalized in US

In a surprise ruling by the US Supreme Court, Sports Gambling is now legal in all 50 states. This has come to the delight of many sports gambling fans. Before, people would gamble on their phones, using something like these pay by phone casino games, for ease. But now, they will have more options to look into and sports gambling is clearly becoming the new past time. It had only been allowed in Las Vegas, Nevada, and of course, under the proverbial table(translation: Illegally) but not anymore. Around the world, meanwhile, countries, such as South Korea, have been enjoying sports betting on sites such as this – ??.

The History Behind the Ban: The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was founded in 1992 to keep individual states from being able to “sponsor, operate, advertise, promote, license, or authorize by law” the act of gambling on sports, with few exceptions. Except or course, Las Vegas Nevada. From this, online betting was born. Gambling has evolved over the years so more ways are accessible to those who want to take part but are unable to in their state, the Online casino Thailand – 999bet-th.com is one of these sites that offer sports betting and casino games, etc. for people to play responsibly.

The Early Attempts to bypass the Ban: Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie signed legislation in 2012 attempting to bypass PASPA and legalize sports betting in the state, but he was promptly sued by the NCAA and the four major pro sports leagues. New Jersey attempted to bring the case to the Supreme Court in 2014 but was denied.

Success in 2018: New Jersey then brought the case to the Supreme Court which voted in favor of striking down the ban with a 6-3 vote, so sports betting online became legal for those who wanted to do it without the worry of being fined or sent to court. (Source Associated Press.)

The Reasoning: American Gaming Association estimates that Americans already illegally wager about $150 billion on sports each year.

The Sports Reaction? After initially fighting New Jersey over this, the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL now want an “integrity fee” of some kind, essentially claiming the cost of protecting the sport from corruption will rise with the legalization of gambling and they should profit as a result.

It’ll be interesting, to say the least…
