MEAC Announces Suspensions Following Post-Game Altercation Between Howard and North Carolina Central Football Teams

NORFOLK, VA – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced the suspension of 36 student-athletes and one assistant football coach following an altercation involving the Howard University and North Carolina Central University football teams on Friday, November 15, 2024.

Following a comprehensive investigation and review of video footage, the MEAC determined that 17 student-athletes from Howard, 19 student-athletes from North Carolina Central, and one assistant coach from North Carolina Central violated the MEAC Constitution & Bylaws.

“The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has a zero-tolerance policy for fighting, as it directly violates the values of sportsmanship, respect, and integrity that define our Conference,” said MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills. “We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all student-athletes, coaches, and fans. Any actions that compromise these principles will result in serious consequences. We expect all participants in MEAC athletic events to conduct themselves with dignity and uphold the high standards that reflect the spirit of the MEAC.”
