Journette Named HBCU National Baseball Player of the Year

NORFOLK, Va. – Black College Nines has named Norfolk State sophomore Justin Journette the 2024 HBCU National Baseball Player of the Year, the organization announced this week.

The recognition comes after a spectacular season by the Richmond native, an All-NEC Second Team selection.

Breaking the school’s Division I record, Journette launched 15 home runs this year, the most by a Norfolk State player since Reggie Terry’s 15 in 1995. Improving on a stellar freshman campaign, Journette posted a .304 batting average, .391 on base percentage, and .619 slugging percentage in his second year.

Journette drove in 47 runs on 59 hits, tallying 10 doubles and three triples. He ranked third in the conference in home runs, fifth in slugging percentage, and sixth in triples.
