WASHINGTION (December 30, 2023) – Senior forward Kaiya Creek (Seat Pleasant, Md.) scored a team-high 17 points while fifth-year guard Iyanna Warren (Accokeek, Md.) chipped in 12 points and second-year Bison forward Nile Miller (Haddonfield, N.J.) came off the bench to score 14 points to help the Howard Women’s Basketball team roll to a 75-57 win over American University (AU) in a nonconference game at Burr Gymnasium.

Creek connected on 7-of-13 from the floor while also adding six rebounds. Warren added four assists and Miller grabbed four rebounds and recorded a career-high five steals. The New Jersey native is making a strong bid for league Defensive Player of the Year consideration.

The Bison took the early lead and led by as many as 11 points early in the third period, but the Eagles rallied on the scoring of Anna LeMaster and Emily Johns, who combined for 14 of their team’s 16 points that tied the game at 31 entering halftime.

With redshirt freshman guard Tyana Walker (Leawood, Kan.) getting into the mix, Howard outscored the visitors, 26-13, in the third quarter to break the game open. It was the most productive third quarter of the season, who have had problems scoring in the period during the season.

For the game, Howard shot a season best 51-percent (26-of-51), scored 34 points in the paint and got a season-best 34 points from its bench.

The Eagles (2-9) were led by LeMaster, who led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Johns (15) and reserve Laura Nogues (10).

NEXT UP:  Howard begins conference play Saturday, Jan. 6, when it travels to Durham, N.C., to take on the Eagles of North Carolina Central. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
