Antonio Brown is Now a Patriot

Wide Out  Antonio Brown’s 2019 hasn’t been a boring one. He began the year as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he didn’t play in the team’s final game. He then caused controversy and demanded a trade, which the Steelers honored when they sent him to the Buffalo Bills. But that trade fell though when the Bills refused to agree to his salary demands.

Then Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders in which things looked peachy, until Brown missed training camp and had issues with his helmet, frostbitten feet and this week, GM Mike Mayock who fined him not only for missing camp, but conduct detrimental to the team and threatened to suspend him. But after Friday’s tearful apology which allowing him to play Week 1, Brown flared up again over those fines and demanded the Raiders to release him, which they did around 11am Saturday.

By 4pm Saturday, he became a member of the New England Patriots who signed him to a 1-yard deal worth $15 million and a $9 million signing bonus.

Brown can’t report to the team until Monday when he signs his contract which means he won’t play in the Patriots Sunday Night home opener against the Steelers. The game will be televised at 8:20pm on NBC.

Brown will join a Patriots team that’s fresh off winning Super Bowl 53. QB Tom Brady lost his primary receiving target when TE Rob Gronkowski retired, but re-signed suspended WR Josh Gordon and veteran WR Demaryius Thomas. The other receiving corps include Super Bowl LIII Most Valuable Player Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett and undrafted rookies Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski. First-round draft choice N’Keal Harry has opened the season on injured reserve.

Brown’s first action as a Patriot is expected to happen in Week 2 when they travel to Miami to face the Dolphins.
