The SIAC Announces this Weeks Football Players of the Week (10/29/19)

ATLANTA, Ga. (October 29, 2019) – D’Angelo Durham (Savannah State) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Kailen Abrams (Central State) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Joshua Nunes (Central State) was also tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week alongside Shemar Bridges (Fort Valley State) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE – D’Angelo Durham, Savannah State
Running Back  |  Sophomore  |  Augusta, Georgia

In a 35-19 win over Albany State, Durham led the entire field on offense with 150 net rushing yards on 20 carries with 3 touchdowns. He recorded a season-high 62-yard touchdown rush in the pivotal SIAC victory. Durham leads the Tigers on offense with 726 rushing yards this season and 8 touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE – Kailen Abrams, Central State
Linebacker  |  Junior  |  Detroit, MI

Central State junior linebacker came up big when it mattered most, stopping on Miles runner in the backfield on fourth down late in CSU’s 15-13 win over Miles. Abrams finished with a game-high 12 tackles along with once sack, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

SPECIAL TEAMS – Joshua Nunes, Central State

In the wind, rain and mud, freshman kicker Joshua Nunes kicked a game-winning 34-yard field goal with 21 seconds left to lift Central State over Miles, 15-13.

NEWCOMER – Shemar Bridges, Fort Valley State
Wide Receiver  |  Junior  |  Jacksonville, Florida

Bridges caught 8 passes for 91 yards in Saturday’s win over the Clark Atlanta Panthers, but it was his final grab of 7 yards on his right back shoulder that was good for the game-winning touchdown. The junior wide receiver had receptions of 17 and 23 yards on an opening drive which produced a field goal for the Wildcats. The Florida native also had a 19-yd catch and only two plays later scored FVSU’s first touchdown. Bridges had a 10-yd catch in the third quarter drive that resulted in a field goal and finished with catches of 10 and two yards before the 7-yard touchdown catch for the game-winning points.
