How To Impress Your Friends And Family With Your Cooking

Food is such an essential part of our lives. Cooking is a survival skill, but it can also be a passion. The love and effort that can go into cooking even the simplest dish can shine through to the recipients of this food. By showing respect for your ingredients and paying attention to some small details, you can make the very most of your food no matter what ingredients to which you have access.

One of the best things that you can do to save money and improve the quality of your dressings is to make your own. Homemade dressings will save you a lot of money in the long run and will also taste great, as most of the ingredients are natural and healthier.

Make sure you spread out your condiments when making a sandwich. Most people rush through the early steps of making a sandwich. They spread their condiments around in the middle rather than making sure they cover the entire piece of bread. Cover your bread from corner to corner with condiments for flavor in every bite.

Keep a few cut up, washed, and prepared vegetables in your freezer. This will reduce your prep time when you’re cooking a recipe. Onions and peppers are great to freeze. Just buy them fresh, wash and cut them when you have time, and store them in individual zip lock bags.

If you are making meatloaf or meatballs, it is important to taste the meat before you cook it. You want to make sure that it has the perfect amount of seasoning. You can taste it by making a small patty and frying it in a pan, almost like a hamburger.

Cook your veggies in chicken broth! The chicken broth will help to keep the vegetables from sticking to the pan and will also add some delicious flavor to them. Broth can be found at nearly any grocery store and is very inexpensive.

Slice garlic when you sauté it. Many people mince garlic. If you plan to sauté it in a pan, this might not be the best idea. When you sauté minced garlic it is likely to burn. If you cut the garlic into slices it cooks more thoroughly and without burning.

Make sure that you let cookies cool down completely – at least 15 minutes – before removing them from the cookie sheet. Otherwise, they are more likely to stick to the sheet and break apart. Also, by eating them while they are still hot, you could possibly burn your mouth.

Read the recipe fully before you begin any cooking endeavor! Just reading the list of ingredients does not ensure that you are fully prepared to complete the meal. There are many different techniques and tools that may be required so do not be too ambitious when tackling a new recipe.

While cooking is fun, generally, the cleaning up that follows, is not. To avoid having to deal with a big mess after a day of experimenting or meal preparation in the kitchen, keep your sink filled with hot soapy water (refreshing when necessary) and clean up as you go along. Besides keeping your end of day cleaning down to a minimum, you will also have clean hands as you touch and prepare food throughout the day.

A foolproof way to clarify butter. Melt several sticks of butter over low heat in a heavy-based saucepan. When you see froth on the top, solid particles on the bottom and a clear yellow liquid in between removing the pan from the heat. Skim the froth off the top, and strain the clarified liquid into a container, leaving the milk solids behind.

Choose authentic parmesan cheese for the best flavor. Parmagiana Reggiano is authentic parmesan cheese, made according to strict standards in certain areas around Reggio Emilia in Central Italy. It has a nutty, mellow flavor that is highly superior to parmesan cheese that is produced elsewhere. For the best flavor, buy the cheese in chunks, and only grate it when you are ready to eat.

For perfect hard-boiled eggs, follow these simple rules. One, the pot should be big enough that the eggs do not touch. Two, bring water just deep enough to cover the eggs to a boil. Three, add each egg with a spoon to the boiling water, so it doesn’t crack. Four, boil eight minutes. Five, run eggs under cold water.

The secret to a great mole sauce is the cocoa powder. Take a cue from Mexican mole and try using a bit of cocoa powder in your typical Italian pasta sauces, as well. A touch of cocoa powder imparts a “been simmering for days” Flavor and complexity, while not being too overpowering.

Using fresh ingredients can greatly improve the flavor in one’s cooking. The freshest ingredients possible can add a richness and new level of flavor to an old favorite or whatever one is going to be cooking. If one wants to make a salad, then they should obtain the ingredients the day that they are going to make it ensure freshness.

To keep your knife from dragging and making a mess of ice cream cake or cheesecake, run it under hot water (or dip it into a nearby bowl) and wipe it with a tea towel. The hot water heats the blade, enabling the knife to glide through the cake, which results in nice, even slices.

When you are making guacamole you need to make sure that you have a lime on hand to squeeze over it after it is prepared. If you do not sprinkle lime juice on the top of guacamole the avocado will start to turn brown and it will give the guacamole a very unappetizing appearance.

Cooking is an activity that is what you make of it. You can either let it be a chore or enjoy it as the creative process it is. Cooking can be very satisfying. The creation of an edible piece of artwork that started as such a different ingredient can be an almost miraculous event and is as rewarding for the cook as it is for the person who eats the final

North Carolina’s Redemption

The NCAA Mens’ National Basketball Championship Tournament tipped off a little over two weeks ago with 68 teams trying to make it to the championship game. The tournament concluded Monday night  with

North Carolina obtaining their goal of winning a  NCAA Championship by beating Gonzaga 71-65.
The Tar heels were led by Junior Point Guard Joel Berry II who despite playing with two bad ankles scored 22 points and also captured the “Final Four” MVP honors. Berry led a tar heel offensive attack that at times did not look pretty but it got the job done. In a game that was filled with 44 fouls called and UNC only shooting under 40 percent from the floor Berry’s leadership combined with the efforts of Junior  Forward Justin Jackson and  6’9″ Power Forward Isaiah Hicks helped the men in blue and white prevail.
The Bulldogs of Gonzaga are lead by WCC player of the year Nigel Williams-Goss who paced the “Zags” attack with 15 points despite not having a great shooting night of his own.The game was a hard fought one that went back and fourth for most of the night,
Things got interesting in the final two minutes when the Tar heels saw and eight-point lead evaporate as the Bulldogs made a final push and actually took the lead 65-63  on a Wiliams-Goss jumper ( Williams-Goss actually scored Gonzaga’s final eight points of the game). But then Jackson converted a three-point play for UNC and Carolina never looked back.
Neither team really got hot from the floor and the Key players like Senior center Przemek Karnowski and Guard Josh Perkins never really got going Karnowksi was held to nine points while Perkins Contributed thirteen. Carolina  6’10”  Senior forward Kennedy Meeks came up big in the closing seconds of the game blocking a Williams-goss jumper that was converted into an uncontested Justin Jackson dunk that put the Tar heels up by five points and sealed the victory
A victory that eases the sting of the North Carolina loss in last season’s title game loss to Villanova. The Zags in their first appearance in a NCAA  championship game in program history did not make redemption for the team from tobacco road easy, but no team that has only lost one time in 38 games is ever easy to beat.
North Carolina consider yourself redeemed, But keep your eye on Gonzaga in the future. The first team from the West Coast Conference to play in a title game in over 60 years may not take as long to get back.

Stretches you can do right at your desk

Working the 9-5 life is not easy. It involves excessive sitting at a desk, too much staring at a computer screen at not enough moving around. By the end of the day your wrists hurt, your feet ache and everything from your lower back up aches. How can you be achy when you haven’t don’t anything but sit in an office chair? Sometimes it’s the office furniture, but most likely it’s due to not moving around. If you want to avoid those aches and pains, try these office stretches.

The first exercise is a wrist flexor. Those that type for a living will especially appreciate this. Move your arm out straight and place your other hand right in front of your fingers. Your palm should be facing you. Press your hand and your fingers toward you, holding for 15 seconds. Release and relax. Now, move your hand down and press down on the upside of your palm toward your body. Hold this for fifteen seconds and release. This exercise helps with those that have repetitive moments at work. It releases the muscles and tension.

Another exercise is the seated gluteus stretch. The gluteus is located in the buttock. These muscles have to be strong, or it could cause injuries. Sit in a chair for this exercise and bring one ankle over the other knee. Now, keeping your back straight, lean your torso forward. You should feel a stretch in your gluteus; they should be getting tighter. Hold this position for up to 30 seconds and then switch sides. Do at least five exercises per side.

The low-back rotation stretch is another common office stretch. When your lower back starts to ache, this is an ideal time take a break and do this stretch. Sit straight up in your chair and in the middle of the cushion. Make sure your feet are flat on the floor and that your back is straight. Then, twist your body, making sure your shoulders are aligned with one another. Twist to the point that you feel a stretch in your back. Hold this position for fifteen to thirty seconds and then release. Repeat this exercise going the opposing way.

You may also try the dynamic hamstring stretch. This is a yoga stretch that targets the thigh and butt muscles. Start the exercise by lifting your leg onto your desk and straighten it. Your body should form a 90-degree angle. Bend your knee on your standing leg. This is going to deepen the stretch that you experience as a result of the stretch. Hold this pose for a few seconds and then release, changing to the opposite leg.

Finally, the dynamic quad stretch is a perfect office exercise. Stand tall in front of your desk, bringing your foot to the surface of the desk. Stand a few inches away from the desk to prevent you from leaning on it. Also, it helps if you keep your hands at your sides. Similar to the last exercise, bending the leg of the opposing leg is going to deepen the stretch for the leg that is bent. Hold this pose for a few seconds and then move onto your opposite leg.
