Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley Re: JuJu Smith-Schuster

Obviously, we took JuJu Smith-Schuster out of USC. We are excited about it. He is a young guy. I think he’s the youngest in the draft. As you know in the last few years we’ve had good success with young guys like that that. We feel like we are getting them early enough to really make an impact on their development. He is a good sized receiver. He was very productive out there at USC. He is a really do-it-all guy. He can play inside, outside. If you had to say what he excelled at, I’d say his ability to catch the ball in combative situations, 50/50 balls as we call them, and he usually comes down with them. He’s a really exciting guy and we are excited to get him here to work on.

Is he a competitive and emotional player?

I’d say he’s very competitive and passionate about what he does. That shows up in the run game, which is an exciting thing for us. He’s not a guy that’s afraid to stick his nose in there and block safeties and even some linebackers. He plays with a great passion, which is one of the exciting things about him.

2017 NFL Draft

Thursday night at the NFL Draft, I had the pleasure of watching the festivities from the practice facility of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although the action did not happen in Pittsburgh until very late Thursday night, the draft itself was exciting. Pittsburgh did not have a pick until 30th overall.

But the draft started off with the Cleveland Browns doing what many expected them to do and that was select the best athlete available Myles Garrett Texas A&M. The big defensive end will help a Browns team that needs help on the defensive side of the ball. The Chicago Bears made a move trading up from the number three spot to the number two pick and used that to select  North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky who only had 13 starts in college. I would have thought that Deshaun Watson would have been the first QB off the board considering he played in National Championship games the last two years and winning the last championship game with the Tigers.

The San Francisco 49ers used their newly found third overall pick to select the second defensive end picked in the draft. Former Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas who got to stay close to home. The Jacksonville Jaguars took the first running back selected in the draft snapping up LSU Tiger Leonard Fournette with the fourth overall pick.

The Second Surprise pick of the night was Western Michigan Wide Out Cory Davis who was the highest receiver selected from the MAC. The only other receiver selected as high from the conference was Randy Moss (and we all know what he accomplished at the next level). Meanwhile, Jamal Adams the second LSU Tiger taken in the top six picks comes from an NFL Pedigree. His father played with the New York Giants and The younger Adams was selected with the sixth overall pick by his father’s rivals the New York Jets.

Meanwhile, Clemsons Mike Williams a good sized wide out with good hands was taken by the L.A. Chargers with the seventh pick followed by Stanfords Christian McCaffrey at eight and speedy John Ross out of Washington  going to Cincinnati.

The Kansas City Chiefs Closed out the Top ten picks by trading up to Take QB Pat Mahomes II out of Texas Tech.

Trade action took place with the 12 pick as the Cleveland Browns  up for their second pick of the draft made a trade with the Houston Texans  for they first round pick in 2018. The Texans  then selected  Deshaun Watson a quarterback  out of Clemson and the third QB taken in the first 15 picks of the Draft. That pick prompted Texans Defensive Star J.J. Watt to tweet  “Welcome to Houston “ To the young QB.

The Pittsburgh  Steelers   finally made their  selection two picks before the final picks of the night and  with the 30th selection taking T.J. Watt  a 6’4” Linebacker out of Wisconsin.  Yes, That  T.J. Watt  the younger brother of  former defensive player of the year  J.J. .  T.J.  started all 14 games for the badgers in 2016 and finished the season with 38 solo tackles and 63 Total  not to mention 11 and a half sacks.

Coach Mike Tomlin  stated in the  press conference after the selection :  “ T.J. benefits from his  having two brothers  in the NFL  and it helped him prepare both mentally and physically  for the net level”

I’m excited about this upcoming NFL Season and the talent that was selected in the first round of this years draft has definitely added to that excitement.  Don’t forget the draft continues today  and ends on Saturday. If I were you I would keep watching.

T.J. Watt

1st Round – 30th Overall

Re: Level of interest from the Steelers throughout this:

I knew schematically it was a great fit for me, and that’s why I was intrigued by them so much. I had dinner with them right before my pro day, and I worked out with them on my pro day as well. So, they did show quite a bit of interest, but after my pro day, it kind of tapered off. So that was probably the point where I didn’t know. But I had a feeling come draft night that it was a really good match for me and a really good fit. I thought that it could happen.

Re: Mock drafts had you going to the Packers:

[Laughs] I am not upset at all. I am ecstatic to be a Pittsburgh Steeler. It is still crazy to say it. It’s insane. I saw the Packers trade back, and I knew right away that there was a really good possibility that I could end up in Pittsburgh, and I am so happy that it happened.

Kevin Colbert and Coach Tomlin Re: T.J. Watt

KC: Thanks, first of all for sticking around. I know it’s late. It’s 11:30. We’re still excited. It’s always exciting to get that first pick. T.J. Watt is somebody we’ve had our eye on really since the early fall. We made a visit up there. We had two other scouts go in. He was one of those junior possibility guys that might come out early. After their season, Coach Chryst actually texted me and said, ‘Hey, can you take a look at this young man, and give me an idea of where his draft value might be before he decides to come out?’ We did that. I looked at him and said, ‘Coach, this kid is a first-round pick.’ So we followed up on that. Of course, we visited with him at the Combine. On one of our trips on the Pro Days, Coach Tomlin and I spent a night with T.J. He continued to impress. We’re excited to get him. This kid is a solid football player that has really only scratched the surface as a defensive player. His first two seasons he had some injury issues that we’re comfortable with. He was a converted tight end. They moved him over to linebacker this year, and he gets 11.5 sacks in the Big Ten. It was really remarkable one-year production. So we don’t even think he’s a complete product at this point. We’re excited about where he can go.

MT: It’s really simple. T.J. is a rock-solid young man who has a lot of upside. He doesn’t have a lot of experience at the position, but at the same time, we saw some things that were exciting to us. His hand usage in particular for a guy with his short resume at the position was exciting. His production speaks for itself. He’s just a quality guy and a quality pick for us. We’re excited about bringing him into the fold, getting started, and continuing his development not only as a football player but as an outside linebacker. That’s probably the most exciting element of the T.J. discussion. He’s worthy of the pick but boy are we excited about the potential upside and growth have given the short length of time he’s played the position.

Re: On if Watt will eventually replace James Harrison:

MT:  not looking at anything of that nature. He’ll be given an opportunity like the other guys. Obviously, because of where we took him in the draft, we believe that all of those things are on the table for him.

Re: On what he will look like when he is a complete product:

KC: I don’t know. I think that’s the exciting part about this. To do this in his first year at the position was pretty amazing, so where he can go from that – his next year at that position will be at the NFL level, so you expect a natural growth against obviously better competition at this level. But I think there is no reason why he can’t contribute and be a significant player, but he’ll be a young player, especially a young player at that position. www.steelers.com

Wish You Could Get Your Shape Back? Try These Helpful Ideas

Whether you just want to lose a few pounds, increase your level of health and feel better, or completely make over your body and be in the best shape of your life, the same basic principles apply. This article will shed some light on those principals and give you tips for reaching your goals.

If you’re working on your overall fitness with running and are looking to increase your stamina, pick up the speed. If you avoid lengthening your stride and rely instead on taking quicker short steps, your body will acclimate to harder training quicker. You’ll be prepared for your next marathon in no time!

Once you have embarked on a new fitness routine, you may be tempted to overdo it. To build your strength and stamina, you should push yourself only slightly more each time you go into your chosen activity. Stretching afterward is key to ensuring you protect the muscles you are building.

Yoga used to be an obscure activity, done only by those into new age experiences. But yoga has become so mainstream that it’s almost impossible now to find someone who hasn’t tried it. There are many types of yoga exercises, which focus on stretching and elongating muscles. There is yoga that focuses on relaxing, but also fitness yoga that gets your heart pumping.

Mix up your intake of sugars before working out. Multiple sugars are better for a workout than sticking to one type of sugar for energy. While manufactured foods usually offer one type of sugar, natural foods such as fruits and granola can give you more than one type of sugar and increase your energy output and stamina.

Plan to eat healthily and exercise on the weekends. The weekend is a source of rest and relaxation for a lot of people. You can have fun on the weekends, but don’t forget about diet and exercise. In order to succeed at losing weight, you have to make healthy living a 24/7 routine.

The best way to ensure you stick with getting regular exercise is to do things you enjoy doing. Getting an effective workout does not have to mean working out on boring machines like treadmills. Instead, find something you love to do like joining a dance class or riding a bike.

Taking the proper supplements can assure that one’s body is getting all the needed nutrients to improve fitness and refuel after exercising. Research should be done to decide what the best amounts for that individual will be. However, with the right balance supplements will improve the results of exercising and increase overall fitness.

The intensity an individual puts into their own exercise activities will determine how effective they are at increasing fitness. The more one pushes their body during exercise the more it will grow. One needs to give a hundred percent to truly test themselves and challenge their bodies limits, expanding them at the same time.

When you are working out, keep your weight training time to under sixty minutes. After an hour of weight training, your body will start to produce more cortisol, which is the stress hormone that can block the testosterone needed to build muscles. This will waste the muscles instead of building them.

You should consider cardio fitness exercises as part of your training. These exercises refer to one of the most important organ systems of our bodies: the heart and the blood vessels. Cardio fitness training helps to keep a healthy weight and reduces the chance of chronic diseases by temporarily increasing the body’s need for oxygen.

Reach your fitness goals by planning backward. Pick when you plan to complete your goals and then work back from there by listing what short-term goals you plan to achieve along the way. This method of thinking, causes you to want to achieve those short-term goals because you are no longer viewing them as goals, but as deadlines.

Choose the best time to exercise. While most people like to get exercise out of the way in the morning, sometimes it’s better to wait. Lung functions peaks in most people between 4 pm and 5 pm, so this may be better for you. Interestingly, midday is the time when exercise returns the lowest lung function. That being said, you should exercise at a time that suits you – your body will indicate that to you.

Keep track of your dirty and new fitness clothes by keeping the dirty ones in a bag separate from the clean ones. Keeping them separate makes them easier to find without having to dig through gross and smelly workout outfits. Then when the week is up, you can take the entire bag and wash them at once.

Buy your own exercise machine for your home. If you don’t have a gym nearby, or you just are not comfortable with the idea of working out in public, buying your own equipment may be your best bet. Many online stores offer inexpensive, but effective, machines that are meant to fit into your home, whatever size it may be.

If you really want to have solid pecks and a well-defined chest, the best way to do this would be to bench press. It is the most classical way to work out your chest and you will gain a lot of strength in a period of a short few weeks.

Make sure that you don’t get addicted to working out. By this I mean, you have to make sure you don’t go to the gym all the time or feel the need to constantly work out. This leads to you believing that you need to get bigger and turning to other sources to help.

Your fitness level is determined by how intensely you monitor your food intake, and your exercise program. There are things you can do to help the process along, and we have highlighted some of those in this article. If you set your mind to your specific goal and follow these tips, you will see results in no time. editor@urbanmediatoday.com

Steelers Expected to Start NFL Draft on Defense

Steelers Expected to Start NFL Draft on Defense

When you finish the NFL Season one win short of the Super Bowl, you know that the key to eventually getting to that Big Game will not just improve your team to beat the team that kept you from it, but to also set up your team for many years of success. Such is the case of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who finished the 2016 season 11-5 and AFC North Champions, but with a bitter taste in their mouths as they fell short of Super Bowl 51 after falling hard to the New England Patriots 36-17. Those same Patriots would go onto beat the Atlanta Falcons to win their 5th Super Bowl in their history.

There are many reasons why the Steelers lost that AFC Championship Game in the manner that they did, and one of the main reasons is their defense, which failed to show up against a strong Patriots offense, led by QB Tom Brady. They had no pass rush and Brady exploited their secondary.

It is said that Defense wins Championships and the Steelers 6 Super Bowl Championships have come because of great defenses which have produced several Hall of Famers. Even the 2 that they lost (Super Bowls 30 and 45) were teams that got there because of great defenses.

The Steelers know that their offense is set with QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le’Veon Bell, WR Antonio Brown, the now-reinstated WR Martavis Bryant and an excellent offensive line, but they know that the key to their success is a balanced attack, and in their case that means fixing a defense that finished 12th overall in the NFL in Total Defense (16th vs. the Pass) as opposed to tie for 5th (With Indianapolis) in Total Offense.

Although they added some defensive pieces in Free Agency, anybody that knows the Steelers are fully aware that they stick to their principle of improving their team in the NFL Draft which begins Thursday night through Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa. Thursday night will feature the 1st Round picks in which the Steelers will pick 30th. Friday will have Rounds 2-3, (Steelers have a compensatory 3rd Round pick) and Saturday will have Rounds 4-7.

Who will the Steelers pick? That’s the $54 million question as they have several options to choose from, especially on defense. And while many fans and some media types hope that the Steelers pick Big Ben’s future replacement in this draft, it wouldn’t be no surprise if the Steelers didn’t make that a priority (especially since Big Ben’s probably 3 years from being done) but since they’re known for selecting the best player available in the Draft, it still wouldn’t be a surprise if they added a QB if the best one in the round is sitting there.

To no surprise, the Steelers aren’t verbally showing their hand when they speak of the Draft. At their annual Pre-Draft news conference, Steelers GM Kevin Colbert and Head Coach Mike Tomlin stated that this will be an unpredictable NFL Draft.

“We are picking at No. 30, and I am sure there are 30 guys that can help us,” said Colbert. ““A lot of times going into this part of the draft process we have a pretty good idea of where this thing could go,” “This year it’s really an unpredictable draft. There are so many different variables that we see could happen around the league, and I think it all starts with the quarterback position. There are so many differing opinions on who the quarterbacks are, who is going to take who, where. It doesn’t matter to us, but it leads into the unpredictability. I think you will see more trade up, trade down possibilities around the league. That part is unpredictable, more so than in the past.”

“The analytics guy that develops a ‘will index,’ they are on the cutting edge,” said Tomlin.

Despite their non-answers, we know that the Steelers aren’t blind or ignorant of their needs and you can expect them to start the early process of the draft focused on defense.

Here’s the Steelers predictions for the top 2 Rounds

Round 1-Inside or Outside (or Edge) LB-Although they have a Pro Bowler in Ryan Shazier and a rising star in Bud Dupree, the Steelers know they still have holes to fill in their pass rush and although they’ve got 39-year old James Harrison for at least 2 more seasons, he’s not going to play forever and this is the position that they need to start thinking about for the future. On the inside, they allowed veteran Lawrence Timmons to depart and join Miami and were that close so signing the Patriots Dont’a Hightower. In 3 of the past 4 seasons they have picked a linebacker in the first round (Jarvis Jones, Ryan Shazier, Dupree) and last season it was CB Artie Burns.

Most projections have the Steelers picking ILB Zach Cunningham (Vanderbilt), while other Mock Drafts have them taking Edge Rushers Carl Lawson (Auburn), Carl Harris (Missouri) and others have them selecting Cornerbacks Tre’Davious White (LSU) Marlon Humphrey (Alabama)

Still there are other mock drafts who suggest that the Steelers will go offense in this round by selecting WR John Ross (Washington). While others have them selecting QB Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech)

Prediction: Lawson from Auburn

Round 2-It can still be used for another defensive pick as they still need to fix their secondary so they could pick a CB or go with an inside LB. Or if the Best QB Available is there, they could select him.

Prediction: Cornerback or inside LB.

                                                            Local Draft Hopefuls

The Pitt Panthers could possibly have their largest number of draft picks since 2004 when that crew was led by WR Larry Fitzgerald. This year, Pitt could come close to surpassing that number as they have a few local players who could join the NFL this weekend. OLs Doran Johnson (Belle Vernon), Adam Bisnowaty (RB James Conner, QB Nate Peterman, TE Scott Orndoff, OL Adam Bisnowaty (Fox Chapel), Dr Ejuan Price (Woodland Hills), TE Scott Orndoff (Seton-LaSalle) TE Tyrique Jarrett (Allderdice) and RB James Conner who is from Erie has local ties as his high-school Erie McDowell was part of the WPIAL when he played there.

Here’s the non-Pitt player with local ties who hopes to hear his name called in the next few days:

LB Jaylen Coleman-Although he broke his leg and tore his Achilles in 2015 and 16 respectively, Coleman finished his 3-year career with 76 tackles and an interception for the Rockets. His uncle is former Steele Lamonte Coleman who played on the team in 1995 and earned an AFC Championship ring with the team.

In addition to the 7 rounds of the NFL Draft, the hopefuls can also hope to be signed as an undrafted Free Agent which will give them the opportunity to allow NFL Rookie Camps, Mini-Camps, Training Camps, and the Preseason to make strong impressions.

Notes: The New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders made news Wednesday as they added veteran running backs in Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch, respectively. Peterson was signed as a free agent from the Minnesota Vikings and the once-retired Lynch was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks for a late 2018 Draft pick.

A Feel for Your Golf Game

by: Craig Sigl

Let’s get down and dirty about the word “feel” and how I apply it to golf the “Without Practice” way so you can shave some strokes effortlessly this weekend. You know deep down if not at the top of your head, that when you feel good, you will perform or act your best in anything right? Most of us struggle with our feelings because we just let them occur based on whatever is happening in our lives at the time.

For instance, if you just get news that you got a raise at work, you are going to have a great feeling for some time after correct? This is a great time to get out of the course as your bio-computer (brain) is now in the optimum condition for performance. Nobody denies this and yet we go out on the course and choose to say and do things that destroy our optimum performance potential.

I am becoming more and more convinced the longer I play this game that how we “feel” during our round determines the variation from our average score more than anything else. What I mean by feel is our STATE.

STATE is physiology plus internal representation. It’s short for “state of being.” So what if we can do things to affect our state just the same as receiving the news that we got a raise at work? We can!

Recently, I shot my best round of my life at 1 under par. As I teach people to really dig into how they “felt” when they played a great round, I took notes and after the round really went over the things I was thinking, how my body was responding, what did I eat, what were my eyes seeing, etc.

You need this information to help build your optimal state in the future!

Once built, you can rebuild it anytime since you now have the blueprint or instructions. WE NEED to pay far more attention to when we play well than when we don’t!

Many golfers completely dissect their rounds afterward replaying their bad shots over and over in their minds trying to figure out what went wrong. This only serves to implant suggestions in our subconscious mind that that is how we play.

Not good for future rounds.

Remember: “as a man thinketh, so shall he become” and other quotes like that? It all stems from the concept of the duality of our mind; the subconscious and the conscious functions. Once we get this, we can do a lot toward the mental side of our game to reach our scoring potential.

I used to take advice from the magazines that say you have to keep track of your Greens in regulation, how many putts you had, how many sands saves etc. and then “identify” my weaknesses.

Forgettaboutit!

Again, this is not good for putting the focus on the negatives only gives them power and the repetition of thinking about them start to solidify in your subconscious.

Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between a positive or negative thought, it just accepts that which it is most convinced of by repetitive thought or action.

And besides, I don’t need a scorecard to remind me of my weaknesses on a given round. I know what they are after every round and I can usually pin it down to something I did or didn’t do prior to hitting the ball.

What you need to start doing right now, next round is really zero in on the things that go well. Make little celebrations in your mind (be humble with your partners) when you hit a great shot. Turn on the positive emotions and show a big smile when you sink that long putt! Take mental, if not paper and pen, notes on anything worth remembering when you do anything that puts you into that “feel good” state.

Create an anchor that you do every time you hit a shot exactly the way you planned it just like the ringing buzzer that Pavlov’s dogs were trained to salivate to.

When you have bad shots, immediately analyze it afterward, see what you can learn from it and then FORGET IT! It will do you no good whatsoever to hold onto it. You know that your swing is different from day to day as all the pros also complain about. So what benefit can be gained from going over bad shots that could be gone the next day without even trying?

Save the analyzing for the range if you do have time to practice. If not, then just keep pounding your subconscious with images of you accomplishing the little things you had trouble with until your next round. If you don’t have time to practice your swing, then “practice” getting yourself into that state or feeling of power and confidence instead of daydreaming during boring or mundane tasks you work on through your day.

That is the “Without Practice” way.

Greens and fairways!

Ilegomah Officially Joins 2017 Recruiting Class

PITTSBURGH – Pitt has added to its 2017 recruiting class with the official signing of a national letter of intent by 6-10 center Peace Ilegomah. The talented big man joins a solid three-man class of Rivals Top 100 point guard Marcus Carr, big man Terrell Brown and junior college standout Jared Wilson-Frame.

“We are excited about our incoming class,” said head coach Kevin Stallings. “We are going to build around players committed to one another, the community and the university and this is a talented group of players that will help form the foundation of this program.”

Ilegomah averaged a double-double with 14.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game along with 3.0 blocks per game to help guide the CBD Montverde [Fla.] postgrad team to a 25-7 record and a runner-up finish in the National Prep Championship. The native of Lagos, Nigeria played two seasons at Roselle Catholic [N.J.] prior to doing a postgrad year at Montverde Academy. He is listed as the No. 27 center in the class by 247Sports.

“Peace has terrific size and strength with the potential to develop into an impact player on both ends of the floor,” said Stallings. “He has shown the ability to be a high volume rebounder and has good instincts on the defensive end of the floor, while playing for a couple of very good programs during his high school and prep year. We are eager to get him to campus and watch him grow as a person and as a player for us.”

Ilegomah announced his commitment to Pitt in late January but did not officially become a member of the recruiting class until the spring NLI signing period. Pitt remains active on the recruiting trail with additional scholarships available due to the graduation of four seniors as well as four transfers from last season’s team.www.pittsburghpanthers.com

NBA Update: Golden State is Golden as the Warriors Eliminate Portland

The Golden State Warriors had all five starters score in double figures as they ripped “Rip City”  by 25 points in their 128 to 123 game four victory. The Warriors win sends the Trailblazers home for good this season and Steph  Curry and crew only needed four games in which to end  Portlands’ season.

I mention Steph Curry because he led the Monday night beating with 37 points and throughout the first round playoff series against Portland he averaged 29 points per game. Monday night he got help from Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Zaza Pachulia and Kevin Durant all scoring in double figures. Not to mention it was Kevin Durant’s first game back since missing the previous two games with a strained calf muscle. Despite only playing 21 minutes “KD” managed 10 points and did not seem to have any problems fitting back into the flow of the Warriors game plan.  Meanwhile Green was big on the offensive end of the court with 21 points and Thompson added 18 while Pachulia added 18.
To me, the intriguing thing about the Warriors sweep of Portland is that Golden State has dealt with many injuries during the series and this is only the first round. I  know that no team is 100% healthy this time of year after playing 82 regular season games, but Golden State has had more than their share of problems. For Instance, Kevin Durant returned from a knee injury just in time for game one and then injured his calf muscle. Shaun Livingston  (always good support coming off the bench ) sprained his right index finger and also has not played since game one. Not to mention the fiery Matt Barnes who has not played at all this series due to an ankle or foot injury. Add the fact that head coach Steve Kerr has missed the last two games due to back problems and you have plenty of roadblocks that could have hurt a lesser team.
I must say I am impressed with the confidence the warriors have shown while assistant Mike Brown guides the team into battle with Kerr on the mend. It will be interesting to see if the head coach returns in time for round two when the Warriors take on either the L.A. Clippers or the Utah Jazz (Series is tied at two games a piece). I guess if Kerr isn’t back in time for the second round, Brown the one-time head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers would have no problem. Besides, the Warriors have enough experience as a unit to be on auto pilot.
In the other games on Monday night Norm Powell put up his post-season career 25 points to Ignite the Toronto Raptors as they clawed the Milwaukee Bucks by 25 points in their 118-93 win.  I guess coach Duane Casey looking for a Spark Plug for the third-seeded team in the Eastern Conference has found one in Powell. The 6’4″ guard who played his college ball at UCLA was active on the boards with 4 rebounds and also dished 4 assists.Keep your eye on Powell who also displayed confidence to play with the big boys Monday night as he drove baseline around  6’11”  Bucks forward Giannis  Antetokounmpo and dunked over  7’1″ Bucks center Thon Maker. So I think with Toronto Point Guard Kyle Lowry still dealing with back issues, The Raptors Powell will continue to become an X-factor in this series for the Raptors. Game Six is back in Milwaukee on Thursday.
Moving on to a series that has kind of surprised me the Atlanta Hawks appear to be in full flight against the Washington Wizards. Paul Milsap knocked down 19 points to lead  Atlanta to their 111-101 latest win and even up that series at two games apiece. I thought that John wall and Bradley Beal would wrap up this series in at least five games, but that is not going to happen. Washington won games one and two and at that time I thought it was a lock for the team from D.C. But then the series moved to “ATL”  and the Hawks enjoyed some home cooking to win two in a row. Now with game five being played in Washington on Wednesday, I could see the Wizards grabbing a win. But then it is back to Atlanta on Friday and Common sense is telling me this series is going seven games and obviously home court is the key. That means the Wizards should outlast the Hawks in the final game of the series in the nation’s capitol.

5 Effective Ways to Better Yourself After a Breakup

Romantic breakups are just as emotionally traumatizing for men as they are for women. As a man, people often expect you to show no emotion after a breakup. However, this is hard to do if you really cared about or even loved your ex-girlfriend or fiancé. It is even more difficult if you were in the relationship for a long duration. But don’t allow a romantic breakup to negatively impact on your future. There are ways to better yourself after a romantic breakup.

Accept What Happened and Move On

It doesn’t make sense blaming her or yourself. It won’t change things. If you want to wallow in your pain or guilt, that’s understandable. It might even help you to see the error of your ways and help you to move on. But just do it for a few days or weeks at the most. The guys that you hang out with might tell you to “man up” about the whole situation.

However, it is best to get the pain or guilt out of your system before moving on to a new relationship. Besides, it’s not fair to the next person that you meet. Don’t bring old baggage to the new relationship. Deal with your hurt emotions or wounded pride and move on.

Prepare to Get Back into the Dating World

Do whatever you need to do to prepare for new relationships. This process may take a few days for some men and a few years for others. If you need to remain dateless for a while, then do it. This can do wonders to strengthen your emotions and build confidence. If you need to lose a few pounds to feel better about yourself, then do it. You must make yourself happy before you can do the same for someone else.

Give Yourself Time to Heal

Men are always told that the best way to get over a female is to find another one. This is sage advice if you weren’t the one that was dumped. If you are experiencing a broken heart, it is best to give yourself time to heal before you try to find another girlfriend. Unfortunately, this might take time, especially if there is some resentment towards your ex-girlfriend. Make yourself better emotionally before jumping into another relationship.

Lean on Your Family and Friends

You might feel compelled to hide the breakup from your family and friends. However, they can help you to get over the breakup faster. Spend more quality time with your family. Or plan to hang out more with your guy friends. Hit the ballpark or the gym. Just do more of the fun things that you used to do before “she” came along.

Concentrate on Your Goals

Take your mind off of the breakup by focusing more on your goals. What do you want to do in life that you haven’t done? Do you want to get a promotion at work? Or maybe you would like to learn how to ride a motorcycle? Learn a new hobby such as fishing or wine tasting. Jot down a few things that you want to do and do them. It could be something that you already know how to do or something that you want to learn how to do.

All in all, romantic breakups are hard for men too. But instead of sitting around like a lovesick puppy, find ways to make a bad situation better. Move on and do fun things in life with friends and family. Concentrate on some of the things that you have always wanted to do. This will do wonders to help improve your situation. editor@urbanmediatoday.com

NBA Playoff Update: The Defending Champion Cavaliers are on a Roll

Thursday night in Indianapolis Lebron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers attack in their 119 to 114 win with 41 points 12 Assist and 13 rebounds. Watching the game you would think that this man became a superhero right before your eyes.
“Bron”  penetrated, grabbed rebounds and dished the ball off to open men who sank open jumpers. All the while helping the Cavs overcome an explosive first half performance by the Indian Pacers.  You see Indian led by Paul George and his 36 points put up  74 points as a team in just the first half. George also finished the night with a career playoff high of 15 rebounds before it was all over, but unfortunately for the Pacers  “Bron” was in the building and playing for the other team.
James overcame his 13 points first half performance (a half which the Pacers dominated) and became “Bron” in the second half pouring in 28 points and the almost magical part of his performance was that he made it look easy. Leaving no doubt that he was taking over the game with literally as 2/3 of the big three ( Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving)  on the bench. Lebron forced the Pacers to focus on him as he drove to the hole and scored buckets and once Indians’  focus was on the King down low he would find open teammates Channing Frye, Kyle Korver, Love and Irving for scoring opportunities.
Do you know that in the third quarter Cleveland scored 35 points and shut down the Pacers attack holding Indiana to only 17 points? I do not know what happened in each team’s locker room at the half, but whatever Cleveland head coach  Tyronn Lue said to his players, he needs to bottle it up..
The win for the Cavaliers has given  “Bron”  a record 20th consecutive first round playoff win and James passed Kobe Bryant on the all-time playoffs scoring list ( he now has 5,669  playoff points scored). In my opinion, if Lebron and the Cavaliers can continue to play the way they did in the second half of this most recent win they will be back in the NBA Finals defending their Crown.
There was another game that had a magical atmosphere to it on Thursday night, Did you see it?  The Memphis Grizzlies and their rookie head coach David Fizzle had their backs against the wall against the vaunted San Antonio Spurs down two games to none.  The same Spurs who finished the regular season with the second-best record in the NBA. But Thursday night’s game was different as Memphis point guard Mike Conley, and Grizzly big men Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph each scored over 20 points leading the way to 105-94 Memphis to win. The fight in the Grizzlies can probably be credited to the NBA fining Fizzdale last week for his comments about the officiating in the Grizz game two loss. In the press conference after that game, Fizzdale pointed out the disparity in foul shot opportunities between the Spurs and his Grizzlies. The Memphis head coaches remarks were met with a huge fine from the league. Fizzdale said he was taking up for his players and with that, his players responded Thursday by beating the Spurs by 11 points. The win cuts into the San Antonio lead with another game coming up in Memphis on Saturday
