Is Your Fashion Feeling A Little Tired? Spice It Up With These Quality Tips

Clothes 004

Learning about fashion means finding what you are comfortable in. There are dozens of useful resources available about developing your style, just find the right ones. Use the tips in this article to help you define fashion for yourself.

Buy clothes that do not lose their flair. It is nearly impossible to keep up with current trends unless you have an unlimited amount of money to work with. To ensure that you look great no matter what the trends are you should just focus on buying clothes that can weather any fashion storm.

Clumps of makeup are not an attractive look for female. In fact, recent polls taken by men find that the less makeups, the better. This does not mean that you have to avoid makeup altogether; try to use warm tones and put on just one layer of mascara and eyeliner.

If you notice your nail polish is becoming too thick, do not despair. Try adding a few drops of acetone based polish remover into the bottle. Shake, and check the consistency. Continue to do this until it is useable again. You will extend the use of your polish, and save money in the process.

If you find a classic skirt, linen shirt or pair of jeans that fits you perfectly and makes you look and feel fabulous, buy two of them. Designers make their money by making changes every year so that customers will buy new items each season. You may not ever be able to replace that beloved item that gives you so much pleasure and confidence.

There is nothing wrong with using hair accessories, but do not use too many at once because it will make you look tacky. Limit them to no more than two at a time. Furthermore, avoid using hair accessories that are so large that they overpower your hairstyle or make your head look too small.

Do you need new jeans? When you go into any store, you are confronted with all kinds of different jean fits and cuts. It’s all a bit much for most people. Select classic clothing like straight or boot cut jeans. You will get a lot of wear out of them, and it should flatter your body type.

When purchasing jeans, go for timeless looks. For example, classic straight leg or boot cut jeans never go out of style. Opt for either of these styles in either a dark denim or slightly faded to remain in style throughout the years. By opting for these styles, you will always be in style no matter the current fashion.

Never be afraid of reinventing yourself. There is no rule that says you must always dress one certain way. In fact, if you did, it would be quite boring. Take a look at Madonna. She has changed her look numerous times over the years, which is part of her appeal. If you are thinking of going blonde, do it. If you have had long hair all your life, try out short hair. Life is about taking changes, and that definitely applies to fashion.

Always break in a new pair of shoes before a special occasion or a long awaited vacation trip. There is nothing worse than finding that a new pair of shoes pinches or rubs when you are in the middle of a wedding reception or walking on a guided tour of a fabulous new city.

If you have curly hair, you know that humid weather can cause it to frizz. Be sure to use a good conditioner after you wash your hair. Blot dry with a towel and then add a little serum containing silicone to your style. Alternately, you could use styling cream. Serum is a little heavy for some types of hair and may cause a chemical buildup.

Many men do not understand how long a tie should be. Many wear ones that sit too high or too short. Too avoid this horrible fashion mix up, you should try to make sure that the tip of your tie comes to your belt line. This is the best way to avoid ruining your look.

If you are going to a evening formal event, then a black suit is a wonderful choice. However, an event in the afternoon or mid-day calls for more pleasant colors. People wearing black during the day are usually undertakers, priests, secret agents or funeral attendees. If you are not aiming at this persona then you should avoid black suits in the daytime.

When you get a haircut, keep your face shape in mind. Certain face shapes look better with certain hairstyles. Oval faces look great with nearly any hairstyle, while round faces do better with hairstyles that have height. Pear faces look better with round cuts and triangular faces look better with short cuts. Square faces look great with all kinds of cuts, except those that are flat on top.

Surprisingly, floral patterns are making a big comeback on the runways for upcoming seasons. Don’t be intimidated to wear a shirt, pants or even a floral patterned dress. Just be careful about accessorizing floral prints with other patterns; if you wear an especially bold or large floral print, choose shoes or other accessories with tiny patterns or go with solid colors.

If you have a large bust, try a swimsuit that has wide-set straps in order to make them look smaller. A bikini top that has a hidden wire that provides extra support is also very helpful as well. There are several other options, but the key is they are available.

Summer styles come and go; however, classic sundresses remain in style. Whether you choose today’s maxi dresses or stick with a knee-length sundress, you will look fashionable. When choosing sundresses for this summer, opt for those with eye catching colors and patterns. To complete the look, slide on a pair of kitten heels.

The key to fashion is being comfortable in the clothes you wear and how you look. Continue coming up with new ways for fashion to enhance your life. Apply the tips you’ve just learned, and you’ll be truly in fashion.

Get Back Your Security Deposit: Tips and Reasons for End of Lease Cleaning

Apartments for rent sign

Plenty of services specialize in end-of-lease cleaning, and for some tenants they provide a viable option. Many others opt to do the job themselves. End-of-lease cleaning can be beneficial to you, and it’s not rocket science. You can do it.

A Good Reason to Take Back What’s Yours

Retrieving your security deposit or cleaning fee isn’t the sole reason to thoroughly clean your rented apartment or house when your lease has expired. In addition to receiving the money, your landlord likely will give you a glowing reference, which can be invaluable when you again rent, or even purchase a home.

Before You Begin

Refer to any documents or photos that record the condition of the space, and any appliances, before your residency. Also remember any conversations you may have had with the landlord. It’s ideal to have a friendly relationship with your landlord, though that’s not always how things turn out. Whatever the case, your job is easier when you know what the landlord expects of you as a tenant.

Make a Custom Checklist

If you live in a small apartment, you might not be eager to wade through an end-of-lease cleaning checklist geared toward those who rent a larger home. On the other hand, a list that’s reasonable for the renter of a small apartment may not prove adequate for others. So it’s best to create a checklist based on your rental space. This may take only a few seconds of thought, but any project goes more smoothly if you have a plan. Don’t forget:

.   Dust as needed, paying attention to cobwebs and dead bugs; remember the ceiling fixtures.

.   Clean the windows, including the sills; wash any stains on the walls, paying attention to light switches and outlets.

.   Scrub the sinks and toilet.

.   Clean inside and behind the refrigerator, and any large appliances.

.   Remove nails or screws from the walls and ceiling; properly fill the holes with putty

.   Sweep or vacuum the floor; remove any stains.

An Ounce of Prevention

Now that your lease is up, it’s time to move into another apartment or house. Seize this opportunity to make a fresh start. Schedule a walk-through with your new landlord. Discuss their expectations of you, and document them in writing. A simple digital camera is perfect for recording any existing damages. Finally, resolve to take care of messes as they happen and immediately report needed repairs to your landlord.

UMT Sports Update

UMT Sports Update White Background (1)

Alas, another sports weekend has ended and so has the 2016 Summer Olympics, but there’s still plenty of sports to be had as MLB and the NFL fill the summer days and nights with events to remember. Plus, College Football looms as well. Here is an update on the world of sports.

MLB-With hopes of rebounding from getting swept by the Miami Marlins over the weekend, the Pittsburgh Pirates made positive news as they signed 3B David Freese to a 2-year contract extension with a club option through 2019. The 33-year-old first baseman has put together a productive year at the plate, batting .276/.355/.437 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs in 107 games. He has been worth 2.0 Wins Above Replacement, according to Baseball-Reference.com, the third-highest total on the team behind Starling Marte and Gerrit Cole. Freese is one of the few Pirates that has a World Series ring as he won one with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011. Freese was also named World Series MVP that season.

Over the weekend, the Pirates also recalled 1B prospect Josh Bell after placing 3B Jung Ho Kang on the 15-day Disabled List. In the 3-game series vs. the Marlins, Bell made his first MLB start at first base had a hit and a sacrifice fly at the plate. Before he was demoted before the All-Star Break, Bell was incredible as he went 3-3 with a Grand Slam as the Pirates took 2 of 3 from the NL Central-Leading Chicago Cubs…Pirates top prospect Tyler Glasnow is close to returning. The right-hander, who has been on the disabled list since July 24 with a right shoulder injury, completed a second side session without issues on Friday after throwing a 30-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.

In other MLB news: The NL East-leading Washington Nationals put starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list due to soreness to his throwing elbow. Strasburg has a record 15-3 with a 3.54 ERA but in his last three starts, he’s 0-3 with a 14.66 ERA. He’s struck out 18 in the 11 2/3 innings…in early Monday action, the NL West-leading LA Dodgers put on a HR extravaganza as they hit 7 (3 by 1B Adrian Gonzalez) as the Dodgers destroyed the Cincinnati Reds 18-9. It was just the fifth time in franchise history that the club hit seven bombs in a game. It also happened in 1976, 1979 and 2006…Earlier this week former Mets star Dwight Gooden missed a scheduled WFAN appearance alongside former teammate Darryl Strawberry, leading to speculation that the former Cy Young winner was again using drugs. While speaking to John Harper of the New York Daily News, Strawberry called Gooden a “complete junkie-addict” in need of help. Gooden replied that he was hurt by Strawberry’s comments.

NFL: The NFL and its players last agreed on a collective bargaining agreement just before the 2011 season, but Pittsburgh Steelers NFLPA Player Representative G Ramon Foster is urging players around the league to start saving their money now in preparation for the next work stoppage when the current CBA expires after the 2020 season. “There are bigger issues than pot,” Foster said, via ESPN.com, adding that he has issues with the league’s current drug policy, though insurance and post-career care are more important. He’s urging players to hit the NFL owners “in the pocket. That way, money always talks.” As for the Steelers, QB Ben Roethlisberger and the first-team offense is expected to see some action when the travel to New Orleans to face the Saints in their 3rd Preseason game this Friday. One of the backups who hope to redeem themselves is #2 QB Landry Jones who threw 4 interceptions in the Steelers 17-0 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night…The Steelers signed rookie free agent guard Shahbaz Ahmed, it was announced today. To make room for Ahmed on the roster, the Steelers Waived/Injured guard Cole Manhart.

College Football: The Pitt Panthers had a scrimmage at Heinz Field over the weekend. HC Pat Narduzzi had this to say about that scrimmage: “We had a tremendous scrimmage on Saturday at Heinz Field. We got 130 plays in. I was happy at the things our offense and defense did as the head coach that day. It was a great scrimmage—very physical, great attention to detail. We saw some guys that we wanted to see make plays at Heinz Field on game day.”

In Other College Football News: In the Preseason Associated Press (AP) Poll, defending champion Alabama is #1, followed ACC Champ Clemson and Oklahoma. Florida State and LSU round out the Top 5.

2016 Summer Olympics-The Summer Olympics are over, but not without deciding who got the Gold Medal in Men’s basketball, and that honor went to the United States as they finished off a golden three-peat with a 96-66 clobbering of Serbia. F Kevin Durant led the way with 30 points.

With the win, Carmelo Anthony won his third Olympic title, setting the record for most Olympic gold medals won by a single player. Anthony tallied seven points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in the game. Anthony established the mark for most career rebounds by a U.S. player in the final game. With his seventh rebound in the game, he surpassed David Robinson with 125 boards in his Olympic career. Earlier in the tournament, Anthony set the record for the most careers points by a USA basketball player at the Games….it was also the final Olympics for HC Mike Krzyzewski who will be replaced by San Antonio Spurs HC Greg Popovich. On Sunday, the US Women’s basketball team won their 6th straight Gold medal after destroying Spain 101-72.

In the final Olympic medal count: the US dominated with 121 total medals and led with 46 Gold, 37 Silver and 38 Bronze.

Innovation and inclusion bond entrepreneurs with stakeholder advocacy

Entrepreneurs

THE ENTREPRENEURS(L-R): Gregory Spencer, moderator LaTriece Holland, Courtney Williamson, Ronald Scott, Paul Harper, Ph.D.

by C. Denise Johnson
In today’s business ecosystem, the wide array of entrepreneurial opportunities seems endless. Those who choose an ownership track must meet those aspirations with insight, determination, vision and purpose.

Pittsburgh is no different with an increasing number of emerging small businesses.

Black entrepreneurs must deal with additional layers of bureaucratic red-tape in place to “level the playing field” to circumnavigate the vestiges of institutional racism.

For his MBA level course in Inclusive Innovation, Paul Harper, Ph.D. assembled panels to present the realities of Pittsburgh’s business climate the experiences for black entrepreneurs and black stakeholders for his students in the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz School of Business.

As a caregiver for a family member, Courtney Williamson recognized a need for support care and created the first orthotic device for Parkinson’s Disease patients to improve posture and balance – the Calibrace+ (Williams’s engineering background was instrumental in developing the biomedical product). It is available through her company call AbiliLife.

As a former professional athlete Chris Edmonds blended his passion and skill set in establishing a fitness enterprise, Athletic Trauma Unit (#ATU) in 2014. “The mission of #ATU is to promote physical activity for people of all ages, with the idea that a body in motion stays in motion for a lifetime,” he said. #ATU has a mission to remove the financial barrier to health and fitness and offers all services and classes free to attendees. In Feb. 2015, #ATU established itself as a designated 501c3 organization, aligning with the strategic goals of the organization to provide a healthy lifestyle, living and being at no cost to participants.

Ron Scott is from a family tradition of entrepreneurs and realized he “couldn’t meet my potential in corporate America,” he established RS Supplies, LLC, thus creating an opportunity for him to reach unlimited opportunities on his own terms. He made immediate use of one of his resources – his family, friends and church. “You grow by taking part to learn and network, and stepping outside of your comfort zone,” said Scott, who joined the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania, the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council and his fraternal affiliates.

Greg Spencer made a similar transition after retiring from Equitable Resources as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer in 2006. He took a different track to entrepreneurship by purchasing an existing specialty chemical company, Randall Enterprises, finding that being an entrepreneur was quite a change from the corporate world. Initially most entrepreneurs don’t have staff, he said. “They do everything from A to Z.” Spencer also had a learning curve to contend with which helped him to benefit from mistakes (“failure makes me work harder”).

After boning up on the manufacturing and distribution aspects of specialty chemicals, and using resources (through the Pennsylvania’s foreign trade office). Spencer looked beyond the region and tapped into international markets to reach customers in Taiwan, Korea, China and Malaysia.

If you want to grow, you must take advantage of what and who you know. On average it takes 11 years for a small business to break the $1 million ceiling, said Scott. Align yourself with others who share your passion.

Entrepreneurs grow by adding people and being able to bring folks on that you trust. “Your business is your baby,” said Scott, “don’t reinvent wheel, it’s not necessary. Use resources as you create wealth for yourself and family, and leave a legacy.”

Have a team of well-equipped players said, Spencer as others nodded in agreement. “Invest in other people so you can work smarter, not necessarily harder,” added Edmondson; he started with his fraternity brothers.

THE ENTREPRENEURS(L-R): Gregory Spencer, moderator LaTriece Holland, Courtney Williamson, Ronald Scott, Paul Harper, Ph.D.
THE STAKEHOLDERS(L-R): Ricardo Williams, Will Bernstein, moderator Charles Allen, Doris Carson Williams, Clarence Curry and Paul Harper, PH.D

In terms of a leaving a legacy or secession plan, besides hoping family members will carry on, all agreed on wanting to inspire those they’ve mentored and leave something of value to the community.

“Dream big but start when you’re comfortable. Build your brand, believe in yourself,” said Edmondson.

Scott started his business in his home; his first customers were his church, and a day care. “You build confidence along with business. Inspire those coming behind, bring them with you.”

Williamson uses her competence and passion while continuing to support and develop a network to improve the quality of life and research for Parkinson’s patients.

Network creation is crucial because relationships are important and they take time to build. “You can’t be afraid to let down your guard to develop a relationship,” added Scott.

The flip side of the entrepreneurial coin was represented by Stakeholders Panel, comprised of Clarence Curry of CFC Management Services, a former Katz faculty member and Senior Diversity Consultant to the Sports and Exposition Authority; Doris Carson Williams, president of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania; Ricardo Williams, Manager of Equity and Inclusion in the Office of Pittsburgh Mayor Peduto; and Will Bernstein, Senior Policy Analyst  of the Allegheny Conference of Community Development.

These stakeholders are essentially advocates of regional black owned businesses. The Chamber’s goal is to improve opportunities and build relationships with its 60 corporate members, while the Allegheny Conference is a think tank that covers a ten county region of the 300 largest employers; one of its initiatives, Vibrant Pittsburgh, encourage members to invest in a diverse culture in recruitment and retention of minority talent. Williams added that the region lost Black corporate executives as large corporations left Pittsburgh during the collapse of the steel industry.

There are challenges to contend with in Pittsburgh as minority business enterprises (MBEs). MBE certifications is not an instant guarantee and certification does not obligate corporations to be to be part of the growth, and MBEs is hampered by limited access to capital. To break the traditional barriers, institutions such as CMU, UPMC, Pitt need to commit and be deliberate in purchasing from MBE/DBE.

Curry mentioned strategies as such as a project labor agreement for trade unions be put into play with the coming estimated 168 infrastructure projects over the next 25 years.

The conundrum, Carson-Williams pointed out, was a problem of equity in labor unions. Set-aside programs are a thing of the past, replaced with goals i.e.  the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh made an objective to 45% participation of MBE/WBE on housing authority projects.

Bernstein said the businesses not inclusive in leadership are the biggest challenge as Carson-Williams emphasized that the common goal is to discuss race, the perception and how to identify a comfort zone for proceed forward to inclusion and partnership.

Being A Great Single Parent: A Short Guide

Mother 004

There is no right or wrong way to parent your child. Parenting has many aspects and many of them, you start to learn as your child grows. The key to properly parenting your child is researching and connecting with other like-minded adults who have children. Read the tips below to help you shed some insight on different approaches to parenting.

If you are cutting your child’s bangs and can’t seem to make them look right, do not trim them from ear to ear. Try starting at the end of one eyebrow and cutting in until you get to the end of the other eyebrow. This will make your child’s bangs look like they were professionally cut.

A great parenting tip is to look at the efforts of your own parents as a base to work from and not the only way to raise your child. There’s nothing worse than repeating the same mistakes with your child that your parents made on you. Always strive to come to your own solutions.

A great parenting tip is to make your child earn the money you give them. A simple way of doing this is to offer them an allowance if they do some work around the house. This will teach them some work ethic and also the value of working for their money.

Be sure to discipline with love. If you take the time to correct your child’s actions they are sure to develop into the person that you desire them to be. Set rules and stick to them and be sure to discipline your child immediately when they break the rules that you have set for them.

When you reach the boiling point with your children, take the time to try some self-calming techniques to make sure that you don’t do anything hurtful. There are many tools you can use, including breathing deeply, removing yourself from the situation for a few minutes, and redirecting your thoughts in a positive direction.

Always treat your children and the other people in your life with respect. Many parents demand respect without realizing how crucial it is to give it as well. If you do not want your children to hit, you should not hit either. Your child is more likely to follow your rules if you show them that you feel they are a priority.

Your marriage is just as important as your children, so take good care of it. You need time together as a couple to ensure that you keep the passion alive, so make sure to have a date night once a week where it’s just you and your spouse. The kids will be there when you get home!

Don’t do your childrens’ homework for them! It’s so tempting to take over a project and complete it, both so your child will get a good grade and so YOU can get it over with! It’s not worth it, you are only teaching your child to rely on others to do their work for them.

Always praise your children for the things they do correctly. Punishment won’t work if you don’t also reward your kids. They have to have the balance of both to remember that doing good is worth it. Even if it’s just a kind word, reward your children for their good behavior.

Positive parenting is a great practice to follow because it allows for structure and discipline for the child. Parents that practice positive parenting methods focus on the good things that their child is doing rather than the negative. By doing this, parents build up the self esteem of their child, as well as promote a positive environment for everyone.

Do not resort to yelling if your child has done something wrong or made you mad. Yelling does nothing but make your child fear you. Instead, lower yourself to their eye level and in a firm voice, explain to them what they did wrong and why they cannot do it again.

Make sure that your child gets at least one hour of active play time outdoors. Outdoor play is needed to exercise his body and to develop his gross motor skills. His muscles and coordination will develop as he climbs, runs and jumps. A good hour of playing outdoors also helps him sleep better at night.

Make time to play with your child every single day. Even if you are busy, carve out half an hour to make a play date. This consistent play time has many benefits. It helps your child exercise, it builds the child’s imagination and it helps to increase the child’s self-esteem!

When spending quality time with your kids, make sure that some of that time is all about having fun. Not every minute spent with your children nees to be a teaching session. While the goal of parents is to have your children be responsible adults some day, they also need be able to relate to you in a playful way. So, don’t be afraid to just have some fun!

For a fun rainy-day activity, keep an art box. Use any box or plastic bin to keep random art supplies at the ready. Get creative; anything can be used as art supplies. Throw in old magazines, tissue paper, toilet paper tubes, packing peanuts or just about anything. It makes for a great creative activity on a day when you hear “I’m bored” one time too many.

Many parents instinctively punish their children for bad behavior, and have the mistaken belief that punishment acts as an adequate deterrent for bad behavior and will encourage good behavior. While punishment does deter bad behavior, it does not necessarily mean that the child will understand why that behavior was bad, nor does it teach the child what the alternative good behavior is. It is significantly more important to communicate with the child to help them understand the differences between right and wrong than to simply punish them. They will then be able to apply the concepts to other situations and become overall better people.

As the beginning of this article mentioned, there is no right or wrong way to be a parent to your child. Many parenting skills are learned as your child matures into adulthood. Being open to learning new things is a wonderful way to learn new ways to approach your child. Apply the tips from this article, in order to have a successful go at parenting.

How to Scent Each Room in Your House

content_Ditch_the_Chemicals_Make_All_Natural_Air_Fresheners

Real estate agents often advise homeowners to bake bread or cookies before a viewing. Filling your house with a delicious food smell might hurry the sales process, but in everyday life, is oatmeal and peanut butter an appropriate scent for the bathroom? There are practical reasons for choosing different scents for each room in your house. Besides, if you use one fragrance too long, eventually you will not notice it any more. Not only will you lose the experience, but you might try to compensate by upping the dosage, creating an overpowering atmosphere for guests. Here are some ideas for which scents to apply to each room, and how to invite different moods into the areas of your home.

Hallway

You might not have thought about applying scent in your hallway, but everyone’s first impressions are made here. Use fresh, floral fragrances to transition from outdoors to indoors. Hide a plug-in spray underneath a console table, or fill a vase weekly with fragrant blooms to provide a focal point. Potpourri would also look nice, but beware of heavy musk’s, and keep it light. Cut grass, lemon oil, hyacinth, jasmine and magnolia are all fresh scents to welcome guests to your home.

Living Room

This is likely the main area of your house, and the one room that should reflect your personality. Food scents are not always a good idea, as everyone’s focus will be on the dinner rather than conversation. If using lavender and chamomile, choose an energetic scent to complement them, as they have a sedative effect. Choose a lively, unusual scent, and do not be afraid to use musk’s in moderation. Sandalwood, orange oil, berries, cedar and vetiver are good choices.

Kitchen

Naturally this room lends itself to food scents. There are hundreds of varieties now available in candles and diffusers. Avoid plug-ins, as the residue may land on food preparation surfaces. Again, fresh flowers are a good visual source. Use fresh-baked cookies, cinnamon, strawberry, apple, sage, rosemary and basil. Be aware that you also may want to use scents to deter insects and cover up cooking smells; citronella does wonders, as do lemon and citrus candles.

Bathroom

Use fresh, non-heavy smells to give your bathroom a spa-like atmosphere. Fresh linen works well, as do cotton and natural smells like rain and sea breeze. Be aware that you will also be able to smell the cleaning products you use, so choose complementary scents in bleach and toilet cleaners if you can.

Bedroom

You want to foster an atmosphere of relaxation and sensuality here. Dark, heavy scents work well. Do not be afraid to layer, but avoid overpowering the room if you have trouble sleeping. Incense sticks work well here, as do plug-ins and candles — arranged safely and never left attended. Use rose, lavender, vanilla, berries, patchouli and lotus flower for deep relaxation and harmony.

It is possible to use scents to cover up odors such as cooking, pets and cigarette smoke, so if there are areas of your home that are prone to malodor, make sure you pay attention to the scents you use nearby. Reed diffusers are an excellent safe and potent way to disperse scent, and are best placed high and out of reach of pets and children. Remember some pets are sensitive to smells such as citrus and eucalyptus, so use these carefully and choose products with as few chemicals and pollutants as possible. editor@urbanmediatoday.com

  1. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) The Atlantic Coach Conference announced its inaugural ACC Network Extra schedule Thursday afternoon. The University of Pittsburgh will have 40 events broadcast throughout the fall season.
  2. These are one of the many reasons why Pitt joined the ACC: The TV coverage-in not just football and basketball & it will get even better when they establish their ACC Network with ESPN starting 2019. I think Pitt did well.
  3. The Pitt football team finally introduced their alternate uniforms that they will be wearing this season. I am truly excited to see them wearing their 1976 National Championship Unis (basically what they wore from 1973-1996) and the players were truly excited when they saw them for the first time as well.
  4. I honestly think that Pitt should make the throwback unis their permanent home jerseys and the away unis and blue helmets the alternates. That version of Blue & Gold has always defined Pitt athletics. Hey, the Pittsburgh Penguins did it, why not the Panthers?
  5. One more point about those throwback unis: Pitt will wear them During their Homecoming Game October 8th Georgia Tech at Heinz Field. I don’t agree that they should only wear these one time, they should wear them vs. Penn State Sept 12th. But it is what it is.
  6. Not much else going on in College football except that Michigan Football HC Jim Harbaugh and the school agreed to a $2 million per year-life insurance policy in June. He’s certainly earned it after leading the Wolverines to a 10-3 record in 2015-which was his first season.
  7. Well, it’s certainly the first of such an agreement that I’ve ever heard of for a college coach, but the team has already invested a lot of money into Harbaugh with that $44 million contract, so I guess $2 million more won’t hurt. I’m sure the school is hoping that they’ll get a national championship out of this in some way.
  8. As for Major League Baseball(MLB) Apparently the Pittsburgh Pirates have found life after sweeping the San Francisco Giants this week. The game that stood out was Wednesday’s game when they rebounded from a 4-0 deficit to win 6-5. That’s pretty huge in my opinion.
  9. And what made that Pirates win very significant was the fact that CF Andrew McCutchen gave the Pirates the lead on a 2-run HR. That could be a turning point in his season as he’s now hitting .248 and it tied for the team lead with 17 HRs. I hope Cutch keeps it up.
  10. 3B Jung Ho Kang has also picked it up for the Pirates as he’s hit 3 HRs since Friday. He and McCutchen will be a tremendous boost to the Pirates if they can keep it going. They can certainly change games with a swing of the bat.
  11. As for the team itself, they’re currently 62-56, 13 games back from NL Central-leading Chicago, but a more realistic 1 game back from the 2nd NL Wild Card spot. They need to do whatever it takes to get that spot.
  12. The Pirates can also benefit from the Aug 31st Trade Deadline-provided they keep it going. You know I would add some players for the stretch run. I think another starting pitcher and reliever would do. And please call up prospect Josh Bell, for goodness sake.
  13. Speaking of those Cubs, MLB just needs to give them the division title right now as they’re playing in another orbit. They’re 8-2 in their last 10 games with a 77-43 record. That’s good enough for the best record in baseball. The 72-60 AL West-leading Texas Rangers have the AL’s best record.
  14. Here’s an update on former Pirate Pedro Alvarez-who’s now playing for the Baltimore Orioles: .258, 18, 42. Yes we’ve seen better stats from him in Pittsburgh, but you know what’s improved? His batting average. Looks like he’s developing more patience and discipline at the plate. Good for him.
  15. And as for former Pirates P JA Happ, who’s with the AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays? He’s 17-3 with a 3.05 ERA. If he ends up winning the Cy Young Award, I’ll be happy for him, but also perturbed-because he should’ve been doing that for the Pirates. Oh well.
  16. As for the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers LB James Harrison and 2 others have agreed to meet with NFL investigators as demanded by the league, which threatened suspension if the players fail to do so regarding steroid allegations stemming from an Al-Jazeera report in January.
  17. A lot of folks don’t agree with these players for doing so, but I do. Here’s why: If they’re innocent, then what does it hurt to meet and talk? Especially in Harrison’s case. He’s 38 and he doesn’t have much of an NFL career left-a suspension would just make it shorter.
  18. As for the Steelers themselves, they made some impressions during their first Preseason game, especially CB Doran Grant who intercepted a pass and returned it for a TD and backup QB Landry Jones looked a little more confident, but let’s be honest folks, it’s only Time will tell.
  19. As for the Summer Olympics, the US Track and Field women dominated Wednesday night as Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin swept the women’s 100m hurdles. A first in Olympic history. Congrats to them.
  20. Here’s the latest medal count: The US is dominating with 95 total medals and also lead with 32 Gold, 32 Silver and 31 Bronze medals. And there’s still a couple of days left. They’re looking like the 1984 US team that had 174 total medals. Now that’s

Try These Tips For A Successful Home Business

Office 005

If you feel like you want to start up your own home business but are feeling a little overwhelmed with what direction to take, then look no further. When it comes to a home business, you want to have a good understanding of the things you need to do to be successful. Be sure to read through this article to get started.

Before starting a home business, be sure to research your market fully. If your product is something that your target market doesn’t want or need, you won’t get many sales. Rather than spending all your energy trying to force the market to buy your product, spend that energy designing and promoting a product the market wants.

When running a business from home be sure to save every receipt from expenses incurred such as mortgage, energy, phone and insurance payments. The expenses incurred in maintaining your home can be included in your deductible expenses when filing your taxes. The percentage of your home used for the home business is the percentage of the expenses you can deduct from your taxable earnings.

If you are looking to make some extra cash by starting up a home business, you should try to start an affiliate marketing business. While this may seem unfamiliar and confusing to most, it is a simple process. You simply direct traffic to a site and get commission for the leads.

Find an area in your home that is peaceful and quiet, and make this area your designated work station. This should not be an area that already has a purpose, like the kitchen or your bedroom. Keep it private and free from things that will distract you from work.

When you are going to establish a home business, you need to think things through carefully before investing in your decision. This careful thought will make sure that you are successful at it and don’t get yourself in over your head when beginning the home business venture.

If you have a business, then you need a budget. How can you run a cost efficient business without a budget? It is impossible, and therefore imperative that you incorporate a well devised budget into the planning process. This budget should include what your expenses are of course and it should itemize them. Make sure you are thorough and include everything so that you are not misleading yourself.

Residual income is key no matter what way you look at running a home based business. If you have customers who pay bills on a residual basis then you want to do everything in your power to retain those customers. If you need customers to return to your business, then you need to focus on customer satisfaction. Residual income and repeat customers are a main focus.

I’m sure everyone has heard the saying “finish what you start.” As everyone gets older, it is easy to realize that its much harder to finish what you start than people think. Everyone can dream, but carrying out that dream takes hard work and determination. Do not give up on your business. With your solid plan and a strong stomach, persevere!

Try a product idea that came from your own thoughts or passion. If you are making items or are passionate about them, they will be easier for you to sell. Making a product to sell is easier because you stand behind it and believe in it, since you made it.

You should know the product you are selling. Study it, inside and out, before you try to sell it. You may also want to test the product out so you know what it does. This way you will be able to describe it to your customers in a knowledgeable way.

Be sure to stay in touch with the customers of your home business, but don’t overburden them with communication. Feature options such as newsletters or optional e-mail alerts, if your business is content rich or you offer frequent discounts or specials. Make sure you don’t overstep your limits when it comes to communication.

With all of the information you just gained, you should start to feel some confidence with ways to be successful with your home business. Try your best to use what you’ve learned from this article and form your own strategies for success from it. If you do that, then you should have no problem succeeding.

UMT Sports Update

sports

Every major sports had their say over the weekend as the Summer continues on. Major League Baseball and the 2016 Summer Olympics are the only sports that are truly active while the NFL began Preseason play, while College Football looms, the NBA continues to make offseason news. As the new week begins, here’s a recap of this weekend’s sports:

MLB: The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to stay alive in the National League (NL)Wild Card chase as they took 2 of 3 from the LA Dodgers, who’re currently the NL Wild Card Leader. On Friday, the Pirates beat the Dodgers 5-1 at Dodger Stadium. OF Andrew McCutchen and SS Jordy Mercer homered to give starter Ivan Nova (2-0) a 3-0 lead before he took the mound. Nova (2-0) has won both starts for the Pirates since they obtained him from New York at the Aug. 1 trade deadline. The right-hander scattered nine hits over 5 1/3 innings in his first outing against the Dodgers and improved to 9-6 overall this season.

The Pirates weren’t as fortunate Saturday as the Dodger struck back and pummeled them 8-4. Although they led 3-1, the Pirates and starter Gerrit Cole (7-8) couldn’t hold off a Dodger team who smacked them around for 17 hits. OF Joc Pederson had his 17th homer, a two-run shot. Corey Seager also three hits and an RBI as Los Angeles overcame that 3-1 deficit by scoring in each of the first six innings. Dodger Relievers Josh Fields, Julio Urias (3-2), Joe BlantonPedro BaezJosh Ravin and Kenley Jansen combined to hold Pittsburgh to one run over 7 1/3 innings. Jansen got his 35th save.

The Pirates rebounded against the Dodgers on Sunday-and in a big way as they destroyed the Dodgers 11-3. Adam Frazier each had four hits, Sean Rodriguez homered and had four RBIs and the Pirates spoiled Brett Anderson‘s return with a five-run burst in the first.

Rodriguez had a three-run homer and Jordy Mercer a two-run shot in the first to chase Anderson (0-1) from his first start since last October. 3B Jung Ho Kang added a solo homer during a four-run ninth to help Pittsburgh win for the fifth time in seven games against the Dodgers this season. Rookie Chad Kuhl (3-0) won his third consecutive start, holding the Dodgers to two runs and six hits over six innings.

In other MLB news: Although there are rumors that the Miami Marlins are reaching out to now-retired Alex Rodriguez, longtime publicist Ron Berkowitz left this statement on Monday: “I want to put all this talk to rest about Alex playing for any team this season. It’s not happening. Like he said Friday night, he is happy and he is going to take some time to relax and hang with his family and friends.” Rodriguez officially retired from baseball on Friday as his former team, the NY Yankees honored him. He will remain with the team as a special advisor until the end of 2017.

NFL: Unfortunately, Bruce Gratkowski just can’t catch a break. The Steelers backup QB was ready to play in 2016 after missing all of 2015 with an injury, only to suffer a torn hamstring in Friday’s preseason loss to the Detroit Lions. With Landry Jones cemented as the Steelers’ No. 2 quarterback, Pittsburgh is fine behind Ben Roethlisberger, but Gradkowski’s injury may open up their third-string job….New Orleans Saints First-round pick Sheldon Rankins is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a broken fibula during practice on Monday, according to NFL.com. The defensive lineman suffered the injury during a goal line drill.

College Football: ESPN revealed their College Football Power rankings, and to no surprise, defending National Champion Alabama is #1 followed by National Champion Runner-Up Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida State, and LSU to round out the Top 5.

NBA: According to the latest odds from Bovada, OKC Thunder G Russell Westbrook is now the sole favorite to win the MVP. He has better odds than Stephen Curry and LeBron James, who are second and third on Bovada’s list, respectively. Durant, Westbrook’s former teammate, has the fourth-best odds.

2016 Summer Olympics- Simone Biles had a chance to accomplish a feat that was unimaginable in Rio — win five gold medals in women’s gymnastics. No woman had ever even won three medals, much less five, in the same Games.

But that dream came crashing down when she slipped on the balance beam during her routine on Monday, leading to a 14.733 score in the competition, leading to a bronze medal showing. The 19-year-old led for the moment, but was quickly pushed down the leaderboard by the Netherlands’ Sanne Wevers, who scored 15.466.

Wevers is the first Dutch women to win gold in women’s gymnastics. Fellow American Laurie Hernandez earned silver with a 15.333 score.

Biles won golds in the women’s team all-around, individual all-around and vault competitions.

Choosing The Best Quality Garments Improves Your Wardrobe

Fashion 029

When did you last shop for new clothes? If so, then your wardrobes are probably looking drab. That’s okay! Read on to find out some simple tips to bring you back up to date with today’s looks.

If you are overweight, you have to be very careful about wearing clothes that have stripes. Make sure you wear vertical stripes if you are going to wear any at all. Wearing stripes that run horizontally will only do the trick of making you look larger than you really are.

When choosing clothes, think about what season you are. If you look good in reds and oranges, you are a “summer” and probably will look good in any warm color (like yellow). If you look good in blues, you are likely a “winter” and look good in whites and greys as well.

Put on a belt if you want to boost your look. There are so many different styles of belts to choose from, offering endless color and design combinations to choose from. Whether you are getting ready for a night on the town or for work does not matter, there is a belt to suit any event.

If you like a shirt or skirt think about getting it in more than one color. Because clothes come in so many varying cuts and styles, you’re likely find it difficult to find clothes that fit well for your body type. When you do just get more than one so that you can feel great more often.

Flip-flops are a comfortable type of footwear for casual occasions, but do not wear them to work or in formal situations. Look for classy but comfortable shoes with a low heel to wear to work everyday. High heels should be reserved for formal occasions, especially if you will not need to stand or walk very much.

Hats are a great accessory to match any kind of outfit. For men, there are the typical fisherman hats and baseball caps, but for women, the possibilities run much deeper. For instance, you can wear a cute sun hat, floppy hat or beach hat with any casual dress you own.

When purchasing jeans, go for timeless looks. For example, classic straight leg or boot cut jeans never go out of style. Opt for either of these styles in either a dark denim or slightly faded to remain in style throughout the years. By opting for these styles, you will always be in style no matter the current fashion.

Summer is a fun time of year, so dye your hair a fun color to really make it stand out. Take good care of your hair so it is not damaged and the color stays longer. Select hair products that are color-safe.

One great fashion tip is to take into consideration the type of care that a garment requires before purchasing it. This is a great idea because if you get something that is dry clean only or hand wash only, you might either end up ruining it or never using it.

Every woman needs to have the basic essentials in her closet. Remember to try and keep a pair of hemmed jeans to use for heels, hemmed sneakers, and at least two dress slack pairs. Let’s not forget the mainstay for every woman, the little black dress.

Many people do not understand how to wear a jacket properly, and it makes them look silly. If you are going to sport a jacket, you need to wear it appropriately to look good. You must always remember that the bottom button on the jacket is not meant to be buttoned. This will keep you from committing a fashion mix up.

One great piece of fashion advice is to make sure that you check yourself from all angles before walking out your door. This is important because you do not want to be embarrassed due to either a strange fit, a stain, or leaving a tag on. Have someone else to check for you as well, if possible.

There are several key factors that you should consider in order to get the right suit. Some important factors include the price, your budget, the quality, the brand, size, color and style. If you take your time and consider each and everyone of these factors, then you are sure to find the suit that fits you just right.

Keep a small bottle of superglue in your pocketbook or vehicle. It can be used to repair a number of different items, should they break unexpectedly. A strap on a pocketbook or sandals can be held together easily. This can save your evening out, allowing you to have a good time instead of worrying about your broken accessory.

When selecting a swimsuit, there are many things you can do to minimize figure flaws and emphasize the right parts of your body. For instance, if you have bigger hips, emphasize your legs and accentuate your small waist by wearing a suit that is cut high on the thigh. Look into more options for swimsuit wear as well.

When hemming your pants, take the height of your shoes into account. The hem of your pants should always be half to three fourths of an inch off the floor. Keep two lengths of pants. Have pants that you can wear heels with and ones you can wear with flat shoes.

There are ways you can make your lips appear fuller short of going under the knife. Utilize a light lip gloss or lip stick with a shiny look. This will cause lips to look full. Dark lipstick colors can make your lips appear thinner and should be avoided.

Separate your suits. When you buy a suit for work, that doesn’t mean you need to wear the jacket and pants or skirt together all the time. Pair the jacket with a nice t-shirt and jeans, or wear the bottoms with a crisp white shirt and a great pair of shoes.

What was your opinion on these fashion tips? Can you imagine yourself using these tips to create a new wardrobe? Hopefully, since that’s what these tips are for! Use these fantastic ideas to update your wardrobe and your style.
